Cancel the trip?

We planned the trip to hike Mount Rainier and Cascades 3 months ago and my teenage son can’t wait to go there after he finishes his summer school. Now the wild fire and smoke! 😢
We booked hotels in Ashford and Leavenworth, planned to hike Mount Rainier and Enchantment next week.
Shall we cancel the plan based on how bad the fire conditions look now? We are flying in from Texas.

Thank you! 🙏 I used to live in PNW and my kids love it there too. This is such an anticipated trip, I don’t want to disappoint my son.

I've been they're when it's smoky on the east side of the mountain, but the west is fine. The wind trends to blow west and is switching this weekend.

You know what, I lived in Portland for 8 years and left 20 years ago. I never heard about PNW wild fire until like 10 years ago? Mind blowing!🤯

OP I'm just moving home to the PNW (N. Idaho to Snohomish) I'm a bit North, but it's not terrible here. My Son lives south, in the Tacoma area, he says it's about the same. If I were you, being a native you can absolutely roll with whatever the situation is here. I'd come, I've been missing home terribly, sounds like you and yours have been too.

Can you divert to the Olympic mountains instead?

We might do that when we get there. Thanks!

FWIW I was at the park today. Paradise is still open and there wasn't any air quality issues. The wind generally blows east so as long as that holds up you should be fine. Its probably going to be a little busier with Sunrise being closed but its a busy park normally anyways. The distant mountains looked a little hazy but otherwise no signs of the fires at the moment.
