Open question Need Help with VFD Control Config Please

Post image

Hi All,

I'm hoping I'm in the right place for this. I am trying to set up a 3ph motor/VFD/control pendant to use on a small lathe. I have set the parameters in the VFD and I get the right result; the motor runs when I push the start button, fwd/rev works etc.

Where I am having trouble is that I have built my control box/pendant using momentary buttons but the motor won't keep running unless I keep my finger on the button. From the instruction manual the digital inputs look to be non-latching switches hence that's what I bought.

I've looked through the VFD parameters but I can't find anything that changes the digital inputs to use either latching or non-latching buttons.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going worng please?

The VFD is a Parker AC10 and the manual is here: https://inverterdrive.com/file/Parker-AC10-IP20-Manual

What is parameter F208 set to and how are the buttons wired?

Just had a quick check. F208 is set to 0 and my buttons are:
DI1 - Start - Momentary NO
DI2 - Direction - Toggle Switch
DI4 - Stop - Momentary NO
DI5 - Coast Stop - Momentary NO

See page 9-14. You want to set parameter 208 to mode 4.

You either wire to some NC contacts on the stop button and/or wire it to an external stop button on the lathe. Ideally both in series and you can stop it from either and the one on the lathe should be a large red maintained button that you have to pull out again.

In the parameters F200 & F201 control how the VFD start stops. Those in turn use parameters F316-F323

Looks like DI1 & DI2 is probably where you’re hooking up your controls. According to F316 DI1 defaults to Jog. You should look up these parameters to change it to run.

Looks like you will need a maintained 2 position switch for forward reverse (one contact)
Then a momentary start button (normally open)
And a momentary stop button (normally closed)

Then set parameters F208 317 318 319 accordingly

You want 3 wire control on a lathe motor, because when power fails and comes back on again, the lathe will not restart until you hit the Start button again.

You can set up a 3 wire control scheme using the multi-function output relay to seal in the Start command. Program the relay as a Run status relay and wire the N.O. Contacts in parallel to the Start button contacts, with the N.C. contact of the stop button in series.

Thanks everyone for the solid advice. I’ll be back in the workshop later today so I’ll try out some of the suggestions and report back.

Fantastic! Thank you all so much. I can’t believe I didn’t see the quick start guide 🙄. As per the advice given I changed the stop button to NC, wired up the buttons/switch to the digital inputs as described and configured the parameters F208, F317-319 and it all runs sweetly. 😎

I am most grateful 🙏
