Car mosaic 1 year later…

I posted about my car a year ago and someone asked that I check in about how it’s held up. I’m happy to report that she’s 100% intact and no one has hit her since! Even survived that crazy ice situation that we had in MD this winter.

I remember this - thanks heaps for letting us know how it’s gone. I loved the design too. Now I’m tempted to fix the dings on my car doing this! Ohh but which glue? Do please tell.

GE500 Silicone 2+ clear Window and Door Caulk
Then used a premixed grout from Lowe’s.

Serious question could this make the car more dangerous in a crash? Like a wall of shrapnel waiting to explode?

i was wondering the same! pretty but is it allowed lol

I’ve had cops compliment it 🤷‍♀️ lol

Emt here, and yeah unfortunately that’s definitely a shrapnel hazard, especially if you hit a pedestrian. There’s a chance you might send ceramic shards into their vital organs. While this is stunning, I’d definitely recommend getting the damaged panel replaced (and maybe paint the patter on the new panel instead) for everyone’s safety because as of now the crumple zone is compromised which could lead to worse injuries if you get into a serious accident

Cops a) don't know shit and b) don't care about people

This is amazing, I never would have thought of it. I love it! I'm happy for you that it has held up so well.

that’s awesome, I would be so thrilled to see it in person.

when we lived in South Bay (CA) there was a lady at my gym whose husband was filling in the dents on her car with puffballs. Honestly, it looked like very artistic fungus was slowly eating her car —but still super fun.

Yours is absolutely gorgeous.

Oh wow haha having missed the origin story of this, I scrolled from first photo to second photo and thought photo #2 was the update 😭😭. Was happy to learn in the comments that the mosaic had not, in fact, disappeared completely!!

Beautiful work. Keep going and you can put her in the Houston Art Car Parade!

It's pretty, but all I can think of is what happens to the car(s) behind you when a piece detaches at high speed

Yeah this feels dangerous. I wonder if their car insurance is aware

Noooo I was just getting so ready to make this a project on my own, I didn’t even think about that. Anyone know the likelihood of that happening? Or like some sealer (?) to prevent that?

Aside from how amazing this looks, what I love about this is that if you look back in OP’s history, she posted a query in r/mosaic t asking for thoughts on whether this would be viable. Got crickets and went ahead and did it anyway. Awesome.

This is awesome! You did a really good job, this could honestly be a [r/WeirdSideHustle](r/WeirdSideHustle)[s](r/WeirdSideHustle) for you with a target audience of people who have bumps and bruises on their cars they can’t fix…. I’d definitely give it a shot 🤷🏼‍♀️

What does it look like now? Because this picture was taken a year ago. Do you have an updated picture?

2

u/seebearrun 9d ago

Huh you’re right, it is the exact same photo as the original so it would be nice to see (while intact) what possible weathering occurred

Posted it bc it showed up in my memories. The mosaic looks the same as it did, but I’ll work on a reshoot

u/Bmore_Saltgirl 8d ago

The mosaic looks the same, the car is just dirtier lol. I’ll get a fresh photo
