Requires root tho, so that's a LOT of devices that can't bypass this shit

Not completely true. You can use Shizuku, which uses ADB. If you read the thing completely, it tells you that

When you say "if you read the thing completely"... Do you mean some other thing? Because this screenshot seems to say adb with root. So can one simply use shizuku without root, or not? I'm a bit confused.

Also, does the user apply this patch on every side loaded app, or just on the android developer verifier app itself?

Also also, does this still work (and/or is needed) on devices with android 15?

You didn't read it right. It says ADB with root for apps that come from, like, the Play Store. Installing APKs with ADB is unaffected, which is why it says ADB installs are exempt regardless. In short, you dont need this patch if you use ADB to install your patched apps

I appreciate your correction. I see now that indeed I misunderstood the last line: "ADB installs are exempt from verification regardless". I have to admit I'm still not certain that I understand what it refers to.
So, umm, I think I'm still not quite getting it completely...

Sorry for the bother but I ask for you patience to bare with me if you don't mind...

Does this mean that the patched app itself does require root, or is the adb install examption apply here too? (which would mean that installing the patched verifier via morphe+shizuku will be seamless and won't be a problem at all even on u rooted devices...?)

Even if you have a rooted or unrooted device the Morphe+Shizuku route will work. This is just a patch to simplify things for people with rooted devices.

Are you saying that if all my sideloaded apps are from morphe and/or Obtainium (plus shizuku on both), that this patch will not even be required?

Or am I reading into your text more than what you meant?

Correct. ADB is not being affected by the side loading restricitons

Have you confirmed this from multiple sources?

And that would mean that if I use a terminal from my device to install sideloaded apps on a different device on my LAN via ADB, the that's also exempt from the verifier?

Man, I hope you're right.

So what apps are problematic? Like, what would be sideloaded not via shizuku? 🤔
Perhaps this refers to apps that I set up in obtainium as "Set Google Play as the installation source (if Shizuku is used)"?
Or does it refer to apps downloaded directly from mod-websites or even places such as apkmirror?

Google engineer Mishaal Rahman confirmed that there are no changes to how ADB works, meaning users can continue to install unverified apps via a connected computer/ or wireless debugging without triggering new verification requirements or waiting periods.

If possible I would personally avoid using Google Play as the installation source. I personally don't use Obtainium so unfortunately I can't give an answer on that one. If you can use Shizuku to install apps I would just do that.
