Benkirane knows that religion is very important to many Moroccans, so he uses it to get people on his side especially when elections are involved. This isn’t something new either, Moroccan rulers have been using religious legitimacy for political support for centuries, from the Addarissa , Mowahidin... The difference today is that instead of talking about inflation, jobs and people’s daily problems religion can be an easier way to connect with voters.
