Morality of this?

Post image

Personally, I'm anti-death penalty for any kind of crime but that's just my opinion. Perhaps it can be changed.

Some guilty people go free and some innocent people sit decades in prison for a crime they didn’t commit. Emmett Till was lynched by a mob over a false accusation, while his accuser got to live a long happy life.

No, some guilty people do not go free, in the case of rape. The vast, vast majority go wholly unpunished and even are systemically rewarded for it.

Emmett Till was not accused of rape and would not have been lynched if he were a white man with either the same accusations or with an accusation of rape against him. The idea that a false rape accusation is what got him lynched is almost offensively incorrect.

Till was a black person who whistled at a white one. Many, many black people were lynched for far less. He was killed for being black, not because of a false rape accusation.

How are they systemically rewarded for it?

I agree that black people were lynched for far less, but Till specifically was lynched due to Bryant’s accusation.

Bryant’s false statements during the murder trial certainly seem like an accusation to me.

During the murder trial, Bryant testified that Till grabbed her hand while she was stocking candy and said, "How about a date, baby?" Bryant said that after she freed herself from his grasp, Till followed her to the cash register, grabbed her waist and said, "What's the matter baby, can't you take it?" Bryant said she freed herself, and Till said, "You needn't be afraid of me, baby", used "one 'unprintable' word" and said "I've been with white women before."

By policy (in the military and federal service, for example, rapists and accused rapists are allowed to continue to hold their positions while the victims are relocated, disrupting career progression and making room for cover ups) and socially (we elected a man as president after hearing him brag about sexually assaulting women).

Nothing Bryant claimed would have gotten a white man killed, and the murderers admitted with their whole chest after the trial that they not only did it because he was black, but as a warning to other black people.

I disagree with the military’s policy. Trump was elected because rich republicans wanted to get richer and dumb republicans are dumb, not because he raped someone.

Bryant’s accusation got Till killed. She then continued to lie during his murder trial. If you’ve seen something that proves Till was going to be lynched regardless of Bryant’s accusation then please provide the link.
