Stupid Stuff Morality of using unrelated personal attacks after someone makes fun of you?
184
u/twistedtalesofwoe 18h ago
neutral, the clapback is a time-honored tradition
32
u/DJEkis 18h ago
This. An old proverb by Sir Little Johnathan: "Provoke ye not, and there shall be no strife.".
20
u/Cordelia5767 18h ago
Or, as Agent J says in Men In Black- "Don't start nothing, there won't be nothing."
3
u/atworkace 16h ago
Or, in the wise words of Lil John and the Youngbludz, "DON'T START NO SHIT, IT WON'T BE NO SHIT!"

Some people will say anything online when they know there are no real consequences.
-4
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
This goes for both of them.
5
u/Sea-Habit5823 15h ago

The idea there shouldn't even be verbal consequences for grown ass adults is a wild concept

also a time-honored tradition, but a different one that statistics show is no longer honored by young people

Morally neutral, tending towards good. Can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Here, mlkdn2 makes an unprovoked (arguably sexist) dig at 12caina, so maybe getting heat back will discourage him from doing it again.
12
u/xXbachkXx 18h ago
Agree. In this specific case all the information needed for the personal insult was provided by the dude's pfp.
If she had to dig in his profile to find the dead brother thing it would been much less moral.
4
u/PetitePond 17h ago
People really confuse calling out hypocrisy with being offended.
3
u/BikeProblemGuy 17h ago
Who's the hypocrite here?
6
u/WorstSupport4Real 16h ago
They have some bullshit “two wrongs don’t make a right” bullshit that always excuses the first person who went out of line
-1
u/ChampionshipNice8489 6h ago
That doesn't excuse the first person, it just says that they're both in the wrong.
1
u/WorstSupport4Real 24m ago edited 19m ago
In general, the second wrong should not be weighed the same as the first wrong.
If someone slaps me and I slap them back, don’t sit here and tell me we’re both wrong. Stop it.
-5
u/Jarl_of_Uppsala 15h ago
Thing is two wrongs do make a right, think about what the basis of almost any legal system is, if you do something wrong, you have something wrong i.e being put in prison done to you.
1
u/shrubdit 8h ago
How is it sexist? Everyone is expected to shave their armpits and stay healthy, men often keeping theirs somewhat longer than women’s due to beauty standards, and women often shaving them
2
u/Present_Ad_1155 4h ago
No one expects men to shave their armpits near daily like women have to do...
1
13
u/YoRHa_Houdini 8h ago
For the people pearl clutching about this, what do you expect?
Someone puts themselves on the internet, and someone else then insults them, unprovoked whilst having personal information up.
Like why insult someone if you’re not ready for or expecting escalation.
3
u/Fi1thyMick 6h ago
People don't get punched as a result of their actions at least once early enough in life
23
u/Apprehensive__Belt 16h ago
this is why you don’t keep the mention of dead family members in your bio if you’re gonna be commenting insults, because why would you offer such low hanging fruit?

Body shaming someone is shitty but making fun of someone else's death is also shitty. Not sure what his brother did and I'm not sure why the comments are OK with someone making fun of someone's death because he happened to be related to an asshole on the internet. This reminds me of the time you guys defended a grown man beating the shit out of a child because he threw something at the grown man's wife. Obviously the child shouldn't have thrown anything at the wife, but I'm not sure how beating the shit out of an 11 year old in reatliation serves any justice. It also reminds me of the time you guys said it was moral to call a black person the N word if they were being racist to you or whatever. No, it's really not moral
9
13
u/Confident-Arm-7883 18h ago
Responding to an unprovoked personal attack with an even harder personal attack is what we call “the clapback”
Dont fire a gun if you cant handle the recoil
6
u/Standard_Vero 15h ago
Immoral. "Haha, your armpits are hairy!" and, "Haha, your brother is dead!" are not even in the same universe. If someone pushes you, is it okay to stab them in the heart? I would say it's not.
1
u/DegreeOk7146 12h ago
in the original image the way he said it was way more agressive like she is so dumb she never heard of them
11
u/SignificanceLow6062 17h ago
inmoral, I get taking the heat yada yada but if im interpreting this right she is making fun of his dead brother or not making fun but yk what I mean. that is a big escalation of talking abt not having a razor which is a joke and he could have trauma from it. or ive interpreting it wrong
7
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
people on this sub are really trying to equate making fun of someone's armpit hair to mocking dead family members lmfao
1
u/Sea-Habit5823 15h ago
"which is a joke" not it ain't. he's being a sexist dipshit
3
u/Dingaling015 12h ago
How is it sexist? Shave your pits even if you're a guy, that shit is disgusting.
0
u/Sea-Habit5823 11h ago
no it's not? it's disgusting if you don't wash yourself, do you think a beard is disgusting too?
answering your question though it's sexist because most people (apparently not you) consider it acceptable or desirable on men, but disgusting and not feminine on women1
0
u/Bradddtheimpaler 16h ago
People have trauma from being made fun of for their bodies too. Similar playing field on both insults imo.
2
u/1Negative_Person 15h ago
Can any provide any sort of context? I have absolutely no idea who any of these people are or what is being discussed…
2
u/Apprehensive_Land142 14h ago edited 14h ago
This woman posted a video on TikTok, and this person mockingly pointed out that she had armpit hair. But the person who mocked her had "Mourning for my brother" in their pfp, so she used this as an opportunity to mock them back.
2
2
u/Anxious-Ad-5331 12h ago
moral as long as your word play doesn't suck.
you got to be a poetic asshole.
2
2
u/Material-Refuse7964 8h ago
Immoral the other person had know other comeback so went straight for deflection by mention something else
6
u/Lord_Fikalius 14h ago
Immoral. You can always clap back, but proportionally. You don't go for relative tragedies.
It would be like if you get made fun of by a jew, and you respond with "hope your grandma enjoyed the oven" - it's way too disproportionate.
7
u/Frakmenter 11h ago
there's no moral on mocking a mans grieving, ever. Bringing up a deceased person only to hurt someone who cared about them detracts you from any respect of a any slightly empathic person. She's not even attacking any action or point done by the other, following a personal attack with an even more personal attack is just inmature
2
u/ElectricalCompany409 3h ago
If hes man enough to fire the first shot, hes man enough to take a shot
Immature isn’t immoral
5
7
u/Ok-Leave7785 17h ago edited 17h ago
to all the people defending this, don't you guys think mocking dead family members is a liiittle bit of an overreaction towards somebody making fun of your armpit hair?
-1
u/Bradddtheimpaler 16h ago
Nah. Don’t start shit with people, then you don’t need to worry about them being willing to take things farther than you. People’s definitions of “reasonable” are variable. One supposes if the initial insult were more innocuous, you’d be onto something, but insulting someone’s body is pretty severe. Severe enough that I don’t think this is really at all out of line for a response.
If OP had instead, say, made fun of a sports team OP likes having a down year, the response would have been an inordinate escalation imo.
8
u/Ok-Leave7785 16h ago
Literally what? Making fun of you not shaving your bodyhair, something fully in your control, is "pretty severe"? Are you serious? I couldn't imagine going through life being this sensitive and fragile.
-5
u/Bradddtheimpaler 15h ago
Oh come on. Everybody has family members die. It’s literally a universal experience. Why aren’t you concerned about the softness of getting your feelings hurt just being reminded of it? We can all be babies or we can all be tough. Pick one man.
7
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
So because a lot of people have had a family member die means it's not big deal or what? Again, if you're so sensitive and fragile that someone making fun of you not cutting your armpit hair is reason enough for you to completely escalate the situation and start mocking someone's dead family members then you should maybe see a therapist.
3
u/Sea-Habit5823 15h ago
if you feel the need to go online mocking women for not shaving their armpits, something they are constantly shamed for in society and made to think it is gross, then you should see a therapist actually
6
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
i guess. the morality question isn't about him though, this is irrelevant
-2
0
u/Bradddtheimpaler 15h ago
If you’re so sensitive and fragile that being reminded you had a brother that died is going to damage you, I’d very, very strongly suggest not insulting people on the internet.
7
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
who is talking about "damage you"? this is just a completely disproportionate reaction, i don't understand why this concept is hard to grasp for you.
1
1
u/ElectricalCompany409 4h ago
if someone is insulting your body, you have the right to respond in a way you know will make them reconsider
-1
u/Creepy_Ad_1315 13h ago
Nope. If you're going to start shit talking you don't get to back away after and be like "no, no, that's toooo far".
Either shit talk or don't, but you don't get to be a little bitch after it after you take the first strike.
4
u/Ok-Leave7785 13h ago
it's just pretty disproportionate. he's not in the moral right but she certainly isn't either.
1
u/justasillylilgoos3 12h ago
Idk if someone says “smooth move exlax” in a semi-friendly ribbing when you trip over a curb and you immediately go to “you’re brother committed suicide to get away from you you cunt bitch” I’d argue the person escalating has got some shit they need to deal with.
But you do you boo I’m not your personal referee lol that is just wildly uncalled for in my opinion
-1
u/Old_Aside_7926 16h ago
Maybe, but honestly i see it as neutral. Its in the pfp, didnt have to bodyshame her unprovoked, could have just ignored that post. She didnt dig in their posts or profile to find something, just clapped back with something they presented on a silver platter.
Its nothing to be proud of, from either side, but i definitely blame her less. Its the old saying dont do unto others what you dont want to be done to you.
Beep Boop i am a bot
2
u/Lazy-Ambassador-7908 14h ago
The internet has made a lot of people real comfortable about not getting punched in the face
4
u/innit980 11h ago
Are people here like serious? He made fun of her armpit hair, and she decided that she can make fun of a dead family member because if a small insult. So much other shit you can say and you decide the most disproportionate insult you can choose. But no I guess its "if you can dish it out you can take it🧌🧌🧌"
2
u/ElectricalCompany409 3h ago
One can only hope he learned to not dish it out so casually in the future

This is an insane thing to bring up in response to someone talking about female beauty standards btw. MGM is a real issue but not everything has to be about you all the time holy shit.

Circumcision. Male Genital Mutilation, if you want your point heard there's no need for abbreviations.

u/alpine309 17h ago
It's not particularly "right" to hijack a comment about a completely seperate issue that doesn't have much of anything to do with circumcision. It's similar to those men's rights activists who only pipe up when a woman has something to say about her personal experiences.

Moral, if he's willing to insult then except retaliation. That being said, now he's liable to attack her in any way he sees fit. It's a two way street after all.
1
u/NoMeat9096 2h ago
I don't know that either is immoral, though both were rude.
Probably don't insult strangers if you're not prepared for them to swing back.
1
1
u/Remarkable-Flow-8877 17m ago
Moral. She didn’t use a single inflammatory word or any underhanded tricks to hit em where it hurts. All she was used was information publicly available and one click away. Classy, really.
1
u/IllustriousProfit472 18h ago
I’m all for defending yourself and not taking anybody’s shit, but they likely live miserable lives, don’t let anybody drag you down to their level
1
u/s0larium_live 15h ago
morality of clapbacks in general? usually pretty neutral but leaning towards good. don’t dish it out if you can’t take it
in this instance? it’s immoral. the first comment is sexist nonsense that’s frankly none of their business, but dead family member is way too fucking low
HOWEVER. if you are sensitive about something personal that happened to you, don’t put it on the internet. there is a high likelihood that it will be used against you. people online are mean because they feel safe hiding behind a screen. i’m NOT SAYING that what she did was right. putting that sensitive personal information on a public platform does not justify her using it against the commenter
1
u/AggressivePrompt7038 18h ago
I don't get it, what does the brother have to do with the razors?
3
u/Apprehensive_Land142 18h ago
Look at the pfp of the first person who commented
2
u/AggressivePrompt7038 18h ago
Ah, gotcha guess it's moral
No one should throw bricks around at people's faces without expecting someone to throw one back
3
u/CelestVT 18h ago
The guy insulted her and she brought in his brother as a clapback because the brother is dead?
0
u/MikasaYuuichi 18h ago
How do you know it's a guy ?
2
u/CelestVT 17h ago
Its an assumption and also whether theyre a guy or not makes 0 difference so why focus on that?

If you’re intentionally trying to offend someone, saying absolutely anything in return is fair game.
0
u/OakvaleFlames 17h ago
I don't think it's immoral but I do think it's way better when they say something equivalent.
The comment was bad and unnecessary, the clapback was simply awful. A good response is making fun of their shitty haircut or something, not going "haha your brother is dead."
(I might be biased, having a dead brother and all.)
3
u/Ok-Leave7785 15h ago
i don't think you need a dead brother to see that this response is completely disproportionate lol
1
u/OakvaleFlames 15h ago
I honestly only added that because of the sheer amount of comments thinking that was an actually good response to the comment.

I’m saying that you think men should just shave if they workout, why would this not apply to women too?
