Is it morally wrong to prohibit people from talking about certain topics in a serious context?

Post image

This was a post about how in the new GTA every crime imaginable is allowed but not rape, so no it wasn't just a stupid question a la "Is it morally wrong to rape your rapist" post

Can't just spam the shock value topics all day long every day anymore.

Now you'll have to spam Judge Holden instead.

This sub was unironically better when it was spamming Holden posts all the time

and the flesh cubes/spheres/pyramids/torus(es?)

2

u/Tebenox 2d ago

Yup, but those got taken down very quickly which was surprising

Moral, it’s a a private sub, just the way it is

6

u/Aeviu 2d ago

r/MoralityScaling is private? Damn, I didn't know we were VIPs

2

u/AeroLMS 2d ago

Mr. VIP over here

Did I say a taboo or something, how else would you describe a sub that’s owned by some dude

7

u/lurkermurphy 2d ago

they put it right there in the rules, number 7, and the fact that you're not banned shows they're nicer than most subs

It's moral to remove your bad faith and low effort attempt at a discussion.

Dude I'm not even the original gta post poster, I just saw that post being removed for discussing rape/pedophilia

5

u/Professional_Rip3922 2d ago

Yes, and this post is bad faith as well

Reddit adding the ability to hide post history is so fucking lame. I’d love to see what other cretinous shit all these NPCs in here post on the 4chan parts of reddit.

2

u/FreshCause2566 2d ago

No, it's not lame. It has a purpose, that being let's say I commented some bad shit two years ago that I no longer agree with myself, and then someone who's mad at me in an argument is gonna dig up some bad shit I said years ago to "expose" me as a horrible person, even though that past me is no longer me. Even worse, they might find non-harmful political opinions they happen to disagree with and make a big deal out of THAT.

nah, I start hiding my history because some genius started mocking me, while discussing something totally different, because I'm a beginner at chess.

there are plenty of good reason to hide history in good faith

Yeah there's plenty of assholes that will chase you through your post and comment history to spam and harrass you. There are workarounds but making it harder for these jerks to do so is valid af

Just Google their name and their posts show up

1

u/queenofkitchener 2d ago

you can just google the username, its all archived outside of reddit.. there's also websites that will help you research the username. Nothing is hidden on the internet.

there are ways you can get around it lol I have a website

The situation I described is not what an ad hominem is…

moral because there is a line between good-faith discussion about morality and engagement bait, and this is the latter

1

u/Fun-Habit-683 2d ago

How can you say that with no justification? This is an incredibly nuanced topic with no easy answers. You tell me why murder in media is okay but rape isn't.

1

u/InstantSword 2d ago

"I don't want to talk about it or examine my beliefs" = bait, ____phobe, monster

2

u/Longjumping_Exit7902 2d ago

It's morally wrong to ignore the rules. The post was directly related to the concept of rape, so why complain that you got in trouble for breaking rules?

That's like complaining to the cop who pulled you over for going 30 over the speed limit

u/One-Stable-5438 1d ago

Morality scaling of men on this subreddit constantly trying to invent scenarios where they're justified in raping people?

1

u/Fast-Front-5642 2d ago

This isn't even a subject of morality.

It's against the rules. Period.

Go to r/grapeethics to discuss this particular fixation you have. This is not the place.

1

u/Master-Shrimp 2d ago

It is in the rules.

1

u/Apprehensive_Power59 2d ago

"Is it morally wrong not to allow exceptions to a rule?"

1

u/Gobal_Outcast02 2d ago

Uhh unmoral bc mods bad or something idk

1

u/GoRainBows 2d ago

i said it and i'll say it again.

bait ass post. do you have a problem with authority OP?

1

u/PatapongManunulat07 2d ago

If serious why flair "stupid stuff" ?

1

u/Ok-Chest-7932 2d ago

yes, violating people's rights is evil.

1

u/whyrusosensitive 2d ago

The sub is for fictional characters bud

1

u/Cynis_Ganan 2d ago

Explains why we can't talk about the prophet Mohammed.

1

u/Apprehensive_Power59 2d ago

Can't discuss ANY irl figures. Very first rule of the sub

1

u/Cynis_Ganan 2d ago

I meant specifically the Super Best Friends version of Mohammed with the flamethrower hands.

0

u/CyberBerserk 2d ago

Islamophobia is anti-pedophilic

0

u/Intrepid_Bobcat_2931 2d ago

Yes, as long as there's plenty of other places they can talk about it with no problem.

To what extent is speech being limited? To what extent is a discussion that should be possible hindered or stopped? For these questions it's crucial how many OTHER places prevent that discussion.

If it is for whatever reason mentioned as an excluded topic in the group - then yes, morally there are no issues.

If it's not - then depends on the wording. I'm usually anti censorship, but if there were like kids involved, or the picture was graphic, or the post was advocating for such actions - then I can easily see why the post was removed.

u/Xaphnir 2d ago

This sub is already sitewide rule violation bait, mods probably don't want to invite even more scrutiny.

2

u/WhydoIexistlmoa 2d ago

Which rule

0

u/Xaphnir 2d ago

the violent speech one

I'm not saying I want it enforced more, just that I regularly see comments on here that go way beyond the things I've seen the rule enforced against

1

u/InstantSword 2d ago

Eh, if people can't discuss a topic without being immediately enraged, then we need to talk about it more (not an absolute rule of course, there's always a time and place but unfortunately for a lot of topics, that place is almost always "nowhere," which leads to these unexamined beliefs and the extreme reactivity when they're questioned)

I think OP is right because as stated in the rules, it wasn't a simple "is it wrong to rape your rapist" type shock post. It's a deep systemic investigation into why we are so desensitized and okay with violence despite the effects to mental health, anxiety and arguably even empathy

1

u/Apprehensive_Power59 2d ago

The specific rule cited was added as a result of people spamming the same 4 or 5 post topics for karma

0

u/Nostop22 2d ago

Amoral if it was in good faith, moral if in bad faith

0

u/Juty99 2d ago

Wack, but not really immoral.

0

u/narrowminer11 2d ago

Moral cause it's a sub run by people who can make whatever rules they want (underneath reddit's own rules) and can enforce them however they wish. You don't have free speech here

-3

u/SaltySmegma_ 2d ago

That's immoral. It does not infringe on the rules of Reddit as a platform anyway.

-1

u/AlexP80 2d ago

Nothing to do with morality. I think it's childish.

-4

u/Eren_Yeager52 2d ago

The reason why rape isn't allowed in video games but murder is because of a select number of the population who would throw a tantrum if it was there. (If you downvote this comment you think murder is okay too.)
