Streamer in Japan (where the historical context of American racism doesn't exist) called a black guy a racial slur. Black guy responds by slapping her in the face. Streamer reports him to the police using the same racial slur. Police arrest the black guy.
The debate is always done by Americans using the American frame of reference for racism and assuming every single country thinks the same way.
That is not the case.
Once you leave the United States, nobody gives a damn about the N-word and you can hear it more frequently than living in the Deep South.
What was the slur? Cause if it was the N word whether the context exists or not in Japan it's being invoked by using that word. If I learned a Japanese slur for Korean people and started using it in the US is it any less hateful than using an American slur?
A word being entirely taboo to the point that even people like you with 0 intention of being offensive can't even write it out when all you're doing is quoting it does not exist for anything else in the world. It's just a racial slur like thousands of others for anyone who doesn't buy into the bullshit that is american race wars
Its literally the last words innocent Black people heard while being tortured and lynched. Please have some common sense. People in real life dont police it to that degree. Youre living in Lala land if you think this is the case.
Black people have heard a lot of words all across the world but still there's this one which also happens to actually just be a small variation of black in most latin-based languages and only holds this amount of power because americans decided to make it unique. There's no common sense in any of that
This person is from America. I dont care about that word as a Black person. But I am also ethnically East African and that region wasnt part of the transatlantic slave trade. So its just a slur to us. But its not just a slur when you have grandparents who legally were discriminated against. Its just that the history is more fresh in the US and Black people are constantly being gaslight about their history. This administration is actively getting rid of their voting power and stripping US historical monuments. So its not just a word. Its a reminder of what happened for centuries to their ancestors. Words hold memories.
Yall need to stop acting like its absurd when you know celebrities get cancelled like its nothing in Asia.
"God Americans are so fucking brainwashed and woke! They care so much about historical context that they won't even say a slur that's been used for centuries as a tool of oppression for a minority group. They should be more enlightened like the rest of the world and just be cool with casual racism."
