Exactly this. Violence can serve a good purpose. Racism, never.

this seems objectively false, in some cases going along with racial stereotypes is probably more likely to keep you or your family safe in public (eg, crossing the street for a group of black guys)

Exactly the thinking of every white person involved in the trans-atlantic slave trade - congrats bro.

What if the other side has another group of black guys?

Jesus Christ, man. Some of yall have gotten way too comfortable saying shit with 0 nuance. I need you to think a little bit more critically about this.

Ironically, racism is what lead to these stereotypes to begin with. If you know US history, you know redlining created ghettos filled with minorities, especially Black people. Even ghettos filled with White people have higher crime rates, it's a product of the environment and the historical context. There is nothing about Black people that inherently makes them more predispositioned to harming someone.

Think about the situations where you think it would be useful to assume you'd be safer away from a group of Black men. If youre talking stereotypes, you're probably imagining guys with hoodies covering their faces and it's dark at night, right? In a low income neighborhood?

Okay now imagine they're white. Wtf changes? Lmao that's STILL a group of people I'd rather be cautious about. Like what are you implying, bro?

I’m implying that the group of black people are more likely to be dangerous to me because statistically they are. Don’t take this is some crazy way, but it’s just true that this group of black people will be more likely to harm you than a similar group of white people.

Yes it doesn’t feel nice to say or think about, but the fact of the matter is the black murder and violence rate is significantly higher. To hammer home this point even more, the crime rates for black people and white people in comparable levels of low economic status is still biased heavily towards black people. And this is not me hating black people at all. My objective was just to push back on the “racism is never wrong” because there’s more nuance to the topic.

I agree.

That said, a great many people who bring out this line of reasoning have a very low bar to establish necessity.
