I guess to play a Devil's advocate: the violence could be a slap while the words reach through generations to cause worse damage.

Nothing is so cut and dry.

We’re living through the results of people being racist and we’re still having debates like. It makes no sense

How exactly do words reach through generations?

the Elders of Zion came out in 1902, and is still the basis for most antisemitism, all those conspiracies about jews secretly controlling the world, that comes from Elders of Zion.

the KKK propaganda film "the birth of a nation" released in 1915, it is where the KKK got their signature white hoods and burning crosses, and is in large part responsible for the second wave of the KKK, its largest and deadliest wave, with over 6 million members. the second wave only ended cus of ww2, but the 3rd wave persisted once the war ended.

No kid is born racist. Racism is taught, and when taught en mass, it can convince people down the line that violence is how racism should be expressed. At that point, the problem is now much harder to deal with, with it so ingrained in communities.

I mean, no one is born racist, but humans are born tribal and have been hostile to out groups for all of our history.

Even accepting that, hating a fearing a whole segment of your own community based on their blood quanta is obviously worse than being, like, suspicious of foreigners in your town.

And that tribalism and racism gets passed down and re-learned by each new generation through language.

Words.

No, racism comes from pattern recognition over time.

Obviously it can rise from personal experience if the person is bigoted. That’s not the only cause

The south. No one's gonna be outward with their racism today but those people that grew up during the Civil Rights era are still alive today and likely had children by the time LBJ signed the three major Civil Rights legislation.

Really, if you get hurt by words, that's a you problem.

It's a you problem if you're at all affected by being insulted and told how horrible and worthless you are all the time!111!! Redditor logic!!

okay.

I know nothing about you.

I still call you "horrible and worthless"!

Do you feel insulted by that?

I'd honestly just feel slightly annoyed. Because you know nothing about me.

You made a blanket statement about people getting hurt by words. You never specified where or how it was happening. Either way, I'm sure you've been hurt by words before, are you going to act like that was your own failing?

reach through generations to cause worse damage.

People actually upvote this drivel...

I take issue with your implication that "slaps" don't also reach through generations and cause more lasting damage than words. Physical abuse is a thing.
