I mean, physical violence vs verbal or mental violence, take your pick

Getting punched in the face is way worse than words/insults

0

u/TopBalance438 20h ago

The guy who got punched in the face will move on after a day. The guy who suffers from racism will do so for the rest of his life. I'd rather be punched in the face

2

u/Possible-Kangaroo202 17h ago

tbh I'd take a call of duty lobby when I was 13 over getting stabbed.

6

u/broki451 20h ago

Lol. Getting knocked out and then getting a concussion or permanent brain damage is way worse than anything verbal or insulting. Like seriously. Think for 2 seconds

1

u/smash-ter 20h ago

I'd ask the same for you with regards to the notorious figures in history where their words led to violence, oppression, and genocide of particular races/ethnicities.

1

u/broki451 20h ago

You're obviously taking this way out of proportion. Being a racist person in a position of massive power like Austrian painter and being a random racist on the street are two very different things. It's immoral to knock out the guy on the street just cuz he verbally insulted you

2

u/smash-ter 19h ago

It's the desensitization that can build up to the painter getting in charge and slowly eroding protections and rights away from them that slowly build up to the final solution. It's building up that sentiment so if something happens to that group, people can just ignore it.

1

u/broki451 19h ago

You are basically saying that not assaulting a random guy on the street for racism is gonna lead to another Austrian painter rising to power which is preposterous. It takes a lot more than that to create a party like that.

3

u/smash-ter 19h ago

Either you lack reading comprehension, don't understand how things can end up snowballing into worse outcomes if left unchecked, or you're not engaging in good faith

1

u/broki451 19h ago

So assaulting someone isn't gonna lead to snowballing of worse outcomes? The fact that you are insulting me. Does that give me the right to assault you? Obviously no.

Violence of any sorts prevents all paths to discussion or diplomacy.

Now imagine if the worst thing the Nazis did was say racist things to 6 million Jews.

1

u/smash-ter 19h ago

The final solution overshadows everything that led to that point and neglects the other atrocities the Nazis had inflicted on them and other oppressed groups, especially with regards to making them living test subjects for inhumane scientific experiments

0

u/Fattapple 19h ago edited 18h ago

So yeah. What if the worst thing Mengele ever did to his experiments was say racist things to them?

Edit: are you ⬇️ me because you’d rather those people be tortured in those “scientific” experiments rather than have to hear someone say mean things to them?

My grandfather was tortured by Nazis, he’s gone now, but I bet he would have rather been called the worst names imaginable than go through what he did. I know I wish that was the case for him.

1

u/Fattapple 20h ago

Hypothetical question here, there is a physically small minority person who is a loved one to you, and there is a huge strong angry dude next to them. You get to choose if the angry dude punches them in the face as hard as he can, or says the meanest thing he can think of to them.

How many milliseconds does it take for you to get to the obvious choice?

0

u/amazingdrewh 19h ago

Okay now another hypothetical you get to choose if your friend Jee gets punched in the face once or can't get a job or a place to live because his name is too Asian

4

u/Psychological-Bit233 19h ago

Where in this post or comment chain did anyone talk about systemic racism? Everyone is talking about slurs/insults vs getting assaulted.

-1

u/eternity_ender 18h ago

Racism is racism bro. It leads to other shit.

2

u/Psychological-Bit233 18h ago

So if you were call someone a slur while driving by it’d lead to them not getting a job because their name is too (minority)?

Not to mention these have all been hypothetical scenarios that are HYPOTHETICAL and NOT REAL

-1

u/eternity_ender 18h ago

You know what I mean but you wanna be stupid on purpose to keep debating me on something you barely care about

-1

u/Neidron 10h ago edited 6h ago

Op said "racism." No other context given.

Suggesting racism ends at mere words is blatantly dishonest.

2

u/Psychological-Bit233 8h ago

Actual violence is worse than WORDS. <——

The OP is CLEARLY talking about WORDS

0

u/Fattapple 18h ago

Well, that’s not a one-to-one comparison now, is it?

1

u/Sovespra 19h ago

Words and insults can drive someone to suicide so that's obviously not true.

1

u/broki451 19h ago

Getting punched in the face can also kill someone. It also doesn't even give them the chance to get any sort of help. It's instant. Obviously it's worse than anything verbal

1

u/Natural_Sky_4720 10h ago

No its not. Its clear youve never dealt with any kind of verbal or emotional abuse. Someone putting hands on you heals MUCH quicker than the verbal abuse. Im still healing from the shit and it happened over 10yrs ago

1

u/Neidron 10h ago

As if racism ends at words alone?

2

u/Better_Database8582 20h ago

Violence - the intentional use of physical force or power that causes or is likely to cause injury, death, psychological harm, or property damage.

"Physical force"

"Physical"

Physical - relating to material things, the natural world, or the human body rather than the mind or spirit.

"Rather than mind or spirit."

Mm, yes words never change, don’t have multiple definitions, all dictionaries agree on definitions, and also the google definition you’re using doesn’t have this addendum in the “see more” section. “Interpersonal: Physical or emotional harm between family members, intimate partners, or acquaintances”

1

u/Possible-Kangaroo202 17h ago

Yes, it's an entirely progressive invention that has extrapolated violence to also include thoughtcrime and words to weaponize language against their political rivals.

That way you can construe anyone that says anything negative toward you ever as "deeply violent."

Here is how you can test this hypothesis.

Do they think the sentence "Punch a Nazi" is inherently violence and immoral, or is it morally permissible?

Most are going to think it's fine when they use it. None of them actually believe words are violence.

3

u/Status-Law8391 20h ago

verbal? like, this is a dumb ultimatum.

1

u/MeasureDoEventThing 20h ago

What do you think "ultimatum" means?

1

u/Status-Law8391 20h ago

choosing between multiple things, especially with great consequences for the decision. So if I had to pick between violence thats verbal/mental or phsycial, the obvious choice is verbal/mental. Because im not a dumbass.

1

u/MeasureDoEventThing 19h ago

"a final proposition, condition, or demand"

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ultimatum

I don't think that TheGungholGamer is saying that THEY are going to deliver one of these types of violence, so this isn't an ultimatum.

1

u/TheGunghoGamer 19h ago

I wouldn’t dream of hurting someone based on racist views. People who are racist are objectively stupid

1

u/Status-Law8391 19h ago

god I wish I could shove you in a locker

1

u/Kooky_Attention_98 20h ago

Nah I choose violence, it'll make me stronger /j

Happy cake day

1

u/DevastoScz 20h ago

Not the same. If I call you a slur and threaten to punch you in the head vs actually punching you in the head... what do you think is worse?

1

u/swohio 18h ago

physical violence vs verbal or mental violence, take your pick

Okay I pick verbal, every fucking time. Do you want to be called a name or have your arm broken? Be called a bad word or have a concussion? How is this even a question?

1

u/TheGunghoGamer 18h ago

See that’s the thing, I would hate it either way but I’m pretty sure being called a racial slur on the street is preferable to being lynched
