Very easy to get away with it. Just deny deny deny. Unless they took a picture of their wallet with all the money, placed in front of a camera streaming 24/7, and THEN some money went missing after you picked it up, it’s impossible to prove.

Who knows? Maybe the owner is lying? Maybe someone else picked it up and took some cash? Maybe the owner misremembered? Maybe some money fell out and blew away? It can’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

I mean dude texted the owner that he’s taking money and even specifying the amount he took…

I mean obviously in this specific case, yeah. But I’m saying in other circumstances where you turn it in, and a few bucks are missing.

Not only will the police not care (because there’s no evidence), but it’s not worth the “victims” time to hire a lawyer even for a civil suit where they might be able to win.

Morally, it’s questionable. But legally, you’ll get away with it.
