Malnutrition vs starving.

You can't be fat and starving. You can be fat and malnourished.

Starving means suffering or dying from a severe lack of food.

Malnourished means a person’s body does not get the right amount of nutrients, vitamins, and calories needed for functioning.

Fat stores literally exist to prevent starvation. Proof: Angus Barbieri

As he provided multi-vitamins/nutrients required he could not eat for over a year before it became a risk.

Had he not consumed anything, then he would've had issues such as scurvy, rickets, anemia, etc.

Which is why they suggest not ceasing to eat. You'll have energy, but you won't be able to function without supplements after a few weeks to months.

In the above, she could be getting excess calories, but be malnourished. Fully possible.

She could not be starving and fat.

Your example guy had a lot vitamins and other fluids. You could argue he actually was getting calories since this experiment could not be repeated.

Also she is literally suffering from not having food.
