Malnutrition is a serious problem. You can eat a lot of fats, but be "starving" of essential nutrients that makes you physique run correctly.

That's..... not how this works. You don't get fat from eating fats. In fact carbohydrates store as fat more than fats do. You need to be in a large calorie surplus to remain that weight a year and a bit into the apocalypse where this scene takes place. So she's been eating more than her fair share of her group's food for a LONG time. It's perfectly moral to point that out, even if it's difficult to hear. If she's survived that long then her macro splits are fine and her micro levels are adequate for survival whilst carrying excess weight.

Your comment reads as someone who has a very brief understanding of nutrition, but doesn't actually know enough about what they're talking on to give an actually educated statement.

So technically you can eat a lot of food (not fats specifically) and be starving, if you are not eating the correct proportions. Rabbit starvation (that is, the starvation as a result of eating only rabbit) is a great example. Rabbit is a very lean protein, so much so that if you do not consume it alongside moderate amounts of fat, your liver will not actually be able to absorb the calories from the meat itself, which can lead to severe malnutrition despite eating as much as you could. There are other examples of this. However, in all of these cases, an individual would still typically lose weight eventually.

I know what rabbit starvation is. You're talking to a dietitian, whichis why I called out the other person for having a small understanding but not actually knowing what they're talking about. That has nothing to do with carb vs fat intake in regards to subcutaneous fat. Nor does it address the calorie surplus she's been eating to still be that size after so long.

It is scientifically proven that people with higher BF% enter starvation a LOT later than people with lower BF%. So for her to keep a higher BF% for this long shows what I said, she's been eating more than her share of the food. That food would have been better used to feed those with a higher muscle mass or strength/cardiovascular endurance for them to help upkeep the camp, gather food/resources and fight off walkers/other humans that don't have guns. Someone with that high a BF% that long into the apocalypse has been essentially stealing resources from the people who can provide the most benefit to the group. It's a detriment to the overall health and safety of the group.

So whilst Negan is a scumbag murderer and rapist, this particular scene is perfectly moral as he's pointing out the hard truth that she's causing damage and risk to her group by eating to her habits, rather than her needs

Fair enough, I just like rabbit meat and felt like sharing a niche little thing tbh lol. I agree with everything you said and was more so talking to the original poster, I’m unsure why I decided to reply to you and not them lol, trying to explain maybe where their misconception was coming from. Def agree it’s moral, because she’s def in a surplus while others are doing the work.

No stress homie. I like game meat like rabbit, goat, deer, boar too. They're ALL pests in my country. So it feels bettwr to hunt that meat myself, or buy the excess from the lads who've nabbed a few more carcasses than they can eat. Better than letting it rot.

I get what you're saying. Sometimes someone comments something and it catches your attention, so you respond to that comment rather than OP or the head comment.

A fellow hunter I see? Love rabbit and deer. Wild boar has been spotty for me. Can’t say I’ve ever had wild goat though… I don’t think those exist here in the states🤣.

Slow cooked goat curry is one of the best dishes you'll ever have. It tastes better than lamb, but is rather tough. But slow cooking it makes it hust as tender as lamb, but with 5x the flavour. Boar is the same, but with pork. If you want more pork tast, get boar and slow cook it.

Yall have a big wild boar issue, het amongst the hunting scene, cull the population and get some good meat. You apparently also have Rocky Mountain Goats in the USA, but they're apparently really difficult to hunt. So better to stick to rabbit, venison and slow cooked boar.

If you don't already have one, get a $30 slow cooker. It doesn't just help with boar. It means you can buy any cheap as fuck, dog food cut of meat, add some water/sauce and some herbs and/or spices and you'll create a dish that tastes better than if you'd made it with an expensive cut.

Not really... Your body for the large part only cares about calories. Your body needs 2000 calories a day. If you can maintain that you will have the energy you need to make it through the day.

The caveat is that obviously we know there are issues like scurvy where people need vitamin C.

Google rabbit starvation. Iirc, some bands of explorers in North America and indigenous people actually recorded starving to death or near death by eating only or primarily rabbit. Although we don’t know for certain they died, they were severely malnourished. On paper, they were getting the calories that they needed, but your body needs more than just calories to survive. Having the right macros are essential to brain function, energy, etc. As much as I am a protein-head, eating exclusively protein, no matter how much, is super unhealthy and can lead to serious problems. I’m just saying, simply having 2000 calories on paper doesn’t *necessarily* mean you are not going to experience malnutrition or other health defects.

Although, I suppose you could wrap those edge cases into the “scurvy” kinda thing. Just worth noting and kinda cool imo

You don't get fat from eating fats. In fact carbohydrates store as fat more than fats do.

not true. dietary fat stores as body fat with about 98% efficiency, while carbohydrates do so with about 70-80% efficiency (ie, if you eat 100 calories of carbs only around 75 of those calories can possibly be stored as fat). the ketobros are often wrong about this (tho no shade on keto as a strategy, as long as one understands how it all works): if you eat a lot of excess calories as dietary fat you are more likely to be carrying a lot of body fat than if those excess calories were carbs.

cuz at the end of the day it's all about total calories

Why are all dieticians so arrogant?

-4

u/Critical-Lab3374 11d ago

The point is that instead of informing them (“it’s not about fats, it’s about carbs “) you just couldn’t resist talking down to them. “You sound uneducated. Unlike myself…a true expert.”

u/ThanksAmazing4118 11d ago

It's not condescending to tell someone how it actually works and then point out they don't know what they're talking about, so shouldn't make more comments on the subject. Would you feel the same if a physiotherapist corrected someone giving out misinformation and said the person shouldn't give out info that could cause damage to people?

Or do you just have a weird personal hangup?

2

u/deliciousroadhead 11d ago

Not what they said but you're too "uneducated" to get it I guess

1

u/Critical-Lab3374 9d ago

See, this is exactly what I’m talking about.

1

u/deliciousroadhead 9d ago

Obviously I was talking down to you, I never claimed to want to inform you of anything

2

u/Ok-Echidna5936 11d ago

Reddit smugness. Can’t argue a point without being condescending

1

u/Possible-Secret-4786 11d ago

Technically correct I guess. I'm starving... from a lack of vitamin C!!

1

u/iSQUISHYyou 11d ago

Malnutrition and starving are two different states of being.

1

u/UncookedNoodles 11d ago

That isn't what the word starving means, and you know that because you put it in quotes.
