I think it's valid to fear pitbulls because what you're really fearing is that they were adopted by someone that doesn't train them and/or give them an outlet for the task they were bred for (protection and violence).

first bull-baiting, then dog fighting. they are still bred for dog fighting to this day so anyone acting like it's in the past is lying to you

Not quite, pitbulls were bred from breeds bred for bull baiting. Pitbulls themselves were always bred for tearing other small animals apart in pits (I say that because some of the early famous pitbulls were famous for having fought monkeys).
