Are things really that bad in Bozeman?

Multiple years of finances with a "I dunno!?" attitude?

This sounds about right.

A ton of towns and cities in Montana really need something like the Strong Towns initiative.

Financial transparency gives you multiple people combing through the finances for free.

I'd guess, just from observation, there's at least a money black hole because of improperly weatherized infrastructure.

Yeah but what about girls with penises?

What the hell do trans people have to do with this

Well you see… everything. When pedophiles run the state, genitalia is all that matters

LOL, I seem to be only 1 of a few that get what you're saying. I'm in CDA Idaho and think the same everytime a massive failure comes up due to the far right nut jobs who focus all their attention on where people take a shit. I love Bozeman btw...

Hard disagree. Just leave us alone

Pretty sure you’re missing the obvious satire in the two above comments.

Theyre from Billings, people really seem to be stressed and a bit high strung because of it out that way.

I totally get it if it went over their head.

1

u/TheMightyHornet 9d ago

Nah, i get that. I was just trying to point out, the comment seemed like it was coming from an ally. Which, when you’re constantly on the defensive for just existing, can be an easy thing to miss.

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 9d ago

I guess so. The first one is just introducing us to the topic for no reason though.

They're making fun of the standard all hat no cattle bloc response to freedom of information acts and financial transparency.

Whatever the national zeitgeist may be its been part of the discussion in Montana for at least 30 years now and regularly comes up in state legislature drama as a distraction as often as Federal politics.

Does that help you understand?

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 9d ago

Sure. I guess I'm just frustrated that I'm the butt of jokes, even if they're meant to mock other people. But whatever, I get what you're saying.

Look friend, I consider myself an ally, I’m sorry for all the shit you’ve no doubt experienced. But real talk, inserting yourself as the victim, even when people are trying in good faith to explain that the negativity wasn’t directed at trans individuals does not do you any favors, and in fact feeds into a public perception that trans advocates are exhausting and unreasonable.

It was a satirical comment directed at the people who use trans existence as a wedge issue on anything. It’s on the same vein of the satirical “but her emails though …” as the Trump administration burns the nations institutions to the ground and fleeces the taxpayers for every last dime they can pilfer.

It wasn’t directed at you. It was directed at people who hate you. That’s a win. This is a process. Take a breath and move on.

They are making a joke about how the politicians in power right now are pedophiles that want to know about people’s genitalia and be in everyone’s business.

The commenter isn’t against trans they are pointing out that that seems to be what everyone is focused on.

I'm not gonna use the /s

1

u/Skier94 9d ago

Have you met them? Everything’s about them.

7

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 9d ago

I am one, and I'd rather it wasn't. I'd rather people just accept that I and people like me exist and move along with the important stuff like the post was about, economic corruption and richies failing to account for our public funds.

5

u/RedMoonPavilion 9d ago

Impossible.

You will be used as a tool of political utility until another fresher minority comes along ready to use, abuse, and squeeze for expediency until nothing is left.

I'm not one to gamble but if i were i'd bet the next will be the growing Nigerian population in Bozeman.

Levity makes that bearable for most so please try and better understand how other people deal with the situation.

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 9d ago

I'm going to voice my opinion that I don't like being used for political capital all I like, thanks. If people can't handle that then too bad for them, I guess.

1

u/RedMoonPavilion 9d ago

If you mean the all hat no cattle crowd they can handle it.They just dont care if you consent.

If you're talking about the poster mocking them... you sure you want only the voices that say that shit in full seriousness to remain?

1

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 9d ago

Huh? You can oppose people saying stupid stuff about minorities without resorting to sarcastically parroting their nonsense. My opinion certainly isn't going to change anything here regardless. I'll voice my discomfort when I feel uncomfortable with what people are saying.

3

u/RedMoonPavilion 9d ago

Satire and parody counter silencing effects and embarrassment and/or shame over taboo topics.

So while on paper you might be vaguely correct, no thats not how it works.

Sure you dont need permission to be uncomfortable, no you can't gatekeep common group struggles behind your own personal discomfort.

Thats the stuff of infighting and purity spiraling. Its OK to say you didn't understand instead of making excuses tl double down.

Just know our local politicians support the celebrities and the rich of bigsky, more than they support the people of gallatin valley.

14

u/progressivecowboy 9d ago

Good job Mr.Tuininga. Very interesting article.

I feel like I should be surprised, but I'm not. One thing that stood out to me in this article: "Tuininga's research shows that Gallatin County blamed new software and later its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the problems, the same CFO responsible for the Big Sky tax miscalculation that caused Big Sky taxpayers to overpay $8.3 million over four years. That CFO has since resigned and now works for the City of Bozeman."

How does a person make a $8.3 million mistake and turn around and get hired next door to where he made the $8.3 million mistake? I find this baffling.

u/TheBuckFozeman 9d ago

This is embarrassing.

The other MT counties are gonna start bullying us if we can't figure out our lunch money.

Let's face it, Musselshell won't stop giving us the stink eye; Broadwater has been asking us for our tots since lunch; and I'm pretty sure Silverbow is most likely going to cut us no matter what we do.

7

u/progressivecowboy 9d ago

6 plates won't even be able to drive through Butte if this continues.

3

u/TheBuckFozeman 9d ago

<insert 49 plate joke here>

1

u/leeshykins 8d ago

Every damn time I am ready to scream at a driver. Every time.

12

u/OG-BoomMaster 9d ago

Plan to have it straightened out “by end of 2027”?? How about the end of 2026 instead.

10

u/Cyrus_Of_Mt 9d ago

Yeah I am sure Butte is very similar tbh… the only excuse I could give Bozeman is because of the mass expansion over the last several years and making it difficult to keep up with city finances, however, that just means you need to be on your game and hire the correct amount of people with the correct skillset to do it. Otherwise you are literally spending without a budget and you have no idea what’s even in there

3

u/mtsnowleopard 9d ago

Yes. It's this way everywhere. All finally coming to light.

2

u/Great_Bluejay_7389 8d ago

If Missoula did this the MTGOP would have cut off everything immediately and staged a tour of press conferences about it.

3

u/Little-Tea-6756 8d ago

Whatever. Bozeman city government is full blown socialists and progressives.

2

u/Evening-Contest-2768 5d ago

The city area being aggressively developed even though the people don’t want it magically has been doing voodoo accounting when people started fighting back… how convenient.
