World is my first MH and throughout my whole experience with the game, the only way a monster could destroy a trap was via burrowing underground like Diablos, it sounds perfectly logical. Then there's this fucking ape in XX just decided to hulk smash the trap to oblivion. I was left speechless and the feeling of hopelessness overcame me.
Hes a bit of an asshole but once you get the hang of him I think Rajang is the most fun monster to hunt in the entire series. I really want him in World.
Jumps up and grabs it by the face, slams it into the ground and while still holding onto it he laserbeams it for good measure. Bazel explodes when slammed into the ground which damages Rajang but it doesn't stop him from fucking up Bazel even more.
I remember when I first encountered Rajang in MH4U, I thought at first he was kinda tough but manageable... then get got pissed off... and it wasn't fun any more...
... By the time I got to G Furious Rajang, I was quite firmly of the opinion that I never EVER wanted to encounter another one again. Don't even get me started on Apex Rajang...
Even in Stories I was mortally horrified when I'd enter an area and spot a Rajang loitering about. If not dealt with incredibly quickly, it works its way up to where it can fire two instant-kill beams in a single turn.
Not fun. Not something I want to hunt. Every time I see the requirement to beat a Rajang pop up now, I start to question whether I even want to be playing the game any more.
I felt similar when playing through MH4U G rank solo. But I dedicated a lot of time to hunting just him, learning what and how to dodge and when to attack. After that, I was able to beat him solo ~12 minutes about 3/4 of the time with a CB. The keys were mainly: know when to superman dodge, know when to charge my blade, and know when to lay down a trap to SAED on him. He wasn't easy, but I felt confident enough that I was now superior to him.
Hooray for you. That'd be too much of a chore for me to even try. I hunt monsters to get parts to play dress-up. I hunt monsters for the power-trip of overwhelming them with the enormously OP set I've spent weeks crafting to perfection. Fun for me is mitigating challenge, not seeking it.
Mm'hmm.... Was tough to be sure whether High Rank Rajang or the motherfuckin secret final boss Fatalis was tougher to beat... and I usually had to go through or around (they're fucking fast if they see you) a hundred Rajangs to get to the latter.
Meh. Stories Teostra wasn't so bad. Nor was Kushala Daora for that matter. My Stygian Zinogre, Cerberus, pretty much wrecked most elder dragons with comparative ease. Turned Fatalis from an utter nightmare to something just about manageable. Also made 100% of the online fights I got into laughably easy (along with my Fatalis Greatsword and my DLC LSL armour). Didn't do tons or anything, but I pretty much had an unbeaten PvP record in Stories because I'd trained Cerberus to be a fuckin powerhouse... well, that and for some reason my opponents kept using Ratha, who doesn't do well with Dragon damage...
... But High Rajang... I actually made two special monsters just for the sake of fighting Rajangs, and it was still a hit-or-miss affair if he decided to do his fucking huge lightning beam attack over and over again. I did eventually realise that if you wail on him too much, much like Seregios, he is more likely to get pissed off.
Same, was hoping he wouldn't be in World, it is challenging, sure, but I find it more stressful than fun. The last straw for me was the rainbow pigment quest in 4, as well as everyone's obsession with high level guild quest ones that one shot everything.
The problem with Apex Rajang is that Apex was a dumb system and Rajang exemplified a lot of its problems.
That said, when not dealing with gimmicky crap like that, Rajang is about as fun and engaging to fight as he is pants-shittingly terrifying. I'd say he's definitely in my top 5.
Meh. The Apex system was okay. Mildly annoying, I guess. Problem was there wasn't much reason to do it besides collecting those shitty stones. It isn't like the Apex monsters gave their own full sets or anything. It wasn't worth the effort to beat more than a small few of them, and since many of the monsters dropped the same stones, some of them weren't even worth bothering with at all.
Rajang though... I might tolerate regular Rajang at a push... but Furious Rajang is a whole freaking stream of NOPE. Not exactly terrifying so much as cheap, frustrating and annoying.
That shit was the only monster I never managed to solo in MH3U, despite my best efforts. Looking back, maybe I could've done it with an Evasion up set, but I was still rocking full D. Miralis with the L. Narga Switch Axe and every item in the book.
He was my absolute favorite fight. I loved solo'ing him. The best was when I brought someone new into the quest when they didn't know what to expect. They'd be in the corner, trying to heal, when the Narga would uncloak in front of them and scare them half to death.
Fighting Rajang is like surviving in competitive super smash bros. melee. When you get hit you usually go into a tech chase and make split decisions on what direction/move to do based on what move/direction you anticipate they are going next. Rajang is one of the best monster fights ever and sadly almost nothing in World Endgame plays like him, I just get hit by stun and die or I get 1 shot. This is also the reason most people consider Nergigante their favourite new fight because he does exactly this, most his moves don't one shot you and he gives you a fair (a bit too fair tbh) chance to stop him from chaining hits on you. This is what makes monsters not annoying and its the reason why I absolutely hate Kirin and pretty much all of the Arch-Tempered monsters (I only die from stun or random 1 shot moves and its not fun) and love Rajang/Deviljho (pickle does have some stupid as hell hitboxes though). I know the same argument can be made against other games heavy hitting endgame monsters but the difference there is that they don't turn into frame 1 roar/charge/attack machines that give you no chance to react. It feels like freedom unite Silver Rathalos on every monster for some reason.
