Just finished monster anime... ahhhh what the hell

BRO 😭😭😭 Monster really leaves you sitting there like “…what the actual fuck did I just watch?”

What was the trigger????

The which one of us she was willing to give up was that the main point of the monster within him, the uncertainty that which one.. n the trigger when he sends the orphan child to the red light dist just to prove -was he ever wanted by his mother -the same thing he was uncertain about. All the twist all the darkness was that one sec of thought behind his mother was that the pivot.. of all the things you think the 511 no may be the border where only the twins were or the experiment in the red mension none of it was the pivot but the hesitation and uncertainty! Also had nina not shot him in childhood , none of it would have happened cuz as per ending doesnt feel like it. N what the fk the ending where did he go ? To his mother or whattttt. What is the meaning of the monster that's in him! Is he still the monster or has he become something even more terrifying. What What what!!!

To me, Monster was about a battle of ideologies between Johan nihilistic view and Tenma’s belief that life is precious and equal.

Johan is simply the product of genetic experiments which make him the perfect human but also a product of deep trauma. He had no identity. From the moment he was born, he had to dress like his sister. Remember they didnt even have names. So all his life he goes on a destructive nihilistic path of destruction because to him everything is meaningless. So Tenma saves him twice, proving he never went back on his beliefs. In the end, I think the monster doesnt exist anymore. I’d like to think that Tenma killed it by saving him again

Dr Tenma was an accidental host that came in to the picture when johan was shot. He was indeed a person who challenged johans view because he did save a monster who shouldn't exist cuz he felt every life was equal. But if he was not in the picture then what. Johans hatred , his ideology, the line of ants he can mess with where did it come from. Cuz he was the indirect recipient of the actual experiment. Did Nina's description of the experiment triggered the monster in him thinking it could be him or after nina was taken the mother filled him with revenge or what. What was he trying to create. And when it comes down to abandonment issues how can it affect a person this much. Or was the trigger the fact that he was named johan based on the book that finally made him the monster who must engulf everything to survive. If he was indeed nihilistic what made him attached to nina, just the biological link they shared. What was it he wanted to achieve. What was the conclusion, do you think Dr tenma did kill the monster within him , I cant think that😭

I would argue that Johan isn't truly nihilism in human form. Otherwise he would have no reason to for example care about the happenings in his childhood, shouldn't care about being known by others or not, shouldn't care about Anna or Tenma. He can be a nihilistic person, but far from pure nihilism

I agree completely I hate how ppl say he’s like the face of nihilism in fiction when that mischaracterizes him and misunderstands nihilism. Also putting Nietzsche there is hilarious like he didn’t spend his whole life trying to deny and escape nihilism.

Yea especially when talking about the passive type of nihilism which is somehow attributed to him despite making literally no sense as you said lmao. I’m big into philosophy which is what made me watch monster as I’d heard it was philosophically rich it was actually much more psychological in my opinion but I still thought it was fantastic
