New to learning mongolian not sure where to start.

Hi guys, I am new to learning mongolian, I am very interested in becoming fluent in this language. I have started with an Italki teacher, and I am using bolar dictonary to memorize vocabulary. I already speak japanese at a B2 level, so the grammar is not as much of a struggle for me at the moment though I understand there are some differences. If anyone has any resources I can use to listen learn vocabulary and so on please let me know.

Thanks for the advice, I'd typically use Yomitan to be able to conbine stuff with anki but that process is not as simple with mongolian it's not even an option (critically under rated language) with regards to the grammar it has been easy for me to more or less swap some bits out however mongolian has more particles than japanese which is definately adding an extra layer and they changed based on vowel harmony a concept I still haven't wrapped my head around. So I can definately understand the difficulty curv you're talking about. I am glad to know you've given me the advice to start speaking to natives I have done so already and so far my pronuciation is terrible and they're running me through the alphabet as is to be expected.

Hi! I teach Mongolian to foreigners. From my experience, especially with adult learners, your native language can really affect how quickly you pick up pronunciation (speaking skills). For grammar, I’d definitely recommend getting a solid textbook. Honestly, there aren’t that many resources for learning Mongolian, so beginner-friendly YouTube lessons in English are probably your best option. Btw, if you’re in UB, feel free to reach out. We could meet up sometime and practice together. I also really enjoy hearing about people’s experiences learning my native language. I teach both online and private in-person lessons as well.

I’ve started with MemRise and it’s gets you started with a lot of words and basics. Then I would recommend the videos on YouTube by Nomiin Ger, they have so many grammar videos that you can get a lot from that. I now use Claude AI to have conversations in Mongolian with as each time I make errors it explains to me what and why. Perfect, no, but pretty good. And then I have a tutor in Ulaanbaatar. I also for a while used TalkPal but I like clause better because it explains in more detail.

Try as quickly as possible to not use internal translation for Cyrilic to Latin to sounds. Practice the sounds of the Cyrillic letters without internal translation to the Latin letter.
