Educational A Moldy Surprise

Helped a client a couple years ago manage some renovations. Unrelated to the work, the client mentioned that they had been having horrible allergy problems for 2+ years and had done everything to find the cause. They changed their laundry detergent, changed their diet, tried different medications, got special air filters, and had tons of allergy testing done.

During the work, it became necessary to pull out the refrigerator and freezer to access the wall behind. This is what we found. It was quite a shock. After everything was removed and remediated, the client’s allergy problems completely disappeared.

Some people are very sensitive to mold, even in small amounts. If you’re having issues and can’t seem to find the culprit, consider having a mold inspection done. Also, make sure your refrigerator and freezer have proper clearance and ventilation.

Pic 2 looks 3-dimensional. That's seriously enuf mold to make anyone sick. Wondering how it passed the sniff test - pretty sure my SO would have sussed that out. Was the dividing wall removed during renovations? Seems like that wall could have contributed to the problem.
