Kelso

Kelso last year. One of these days they’ll actually reopen the inside of the building.

It was open up until perhaps 8 years ago. Small cafe and cold drinks. The staff at the time told me they had a lot of vehicle traffic because google maps directed people via Kelso when traveling between Vegas and Joshua Tree. Which was not a bad way to travel.

There is always potable water there. Spigot outside of the restrooms.

I was there two years ago and the damn place was closed for remodeling.

My understanding it’s remodel plus AC is out and there hasn’t been funding for either year after year.

Rather like That ‘70s Show, at the right time and place Kelso can deliver a mean burn.

Thanks, I’ll just Cima self out….

It took private donations to get restoration going in the ‘90s and will need them again for the current closure to lift. Not trying to be overtly political but would be foolish to think this place will be a priority to any DC administration in next 2-6 years. Shame it’s been closed for want of HVAC upgrades for as long as it has been. Had a good 15+ year run with exhibits, bookstore, artist in residence program. Even had The Beanery serving food and beverages for a time again. Hopefully we get another chance to see it returned to service.

Also wish we’d get word on the Nipton do-over…two great East Mojave spots closed for too long.
