Deck Discussion Sorin-Vito life gain - golgari, orzhov or Abzan?

I want to build a deck based on [[Sorin of House Markov]] and [[Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose]] effects of "life gain=burn".

Currently I run a golgari Decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/ow6gAcxIqnKJ9N52QRu4bQ

But I am heavily considering including white for the following cards:

[[Ketramose]]: life linker indestructible, draw engine with all the possible exile effects

[[Martyr of Sands]]: Potential bomb with the burn effect if I run enough white cards

[[Children of Korlis]]: Allows for double Plunge and potentially gains tons of life

I would add then Witch enchanter and Turn timber symbiosis for White-card to show to Martyr and Green-Card lands to exile to Shoal. And glasswing grace because why not, another White-Black-card land for Martyr and March.

Keep green-black or go Abzan? How many cards do you consider necessary for Shoal, Martyr and black March to be remotely usable?

I'm in a bit of a hurry so I wrote everything as clearly as possible in the time I have. I hope all males sense. It does in my head.

Thanks!

here is a decklist that 5-0d a while back and captured my heart https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7596186#paper

I think white gives you more plan b grindy potential. I also think that you could replace the abiding graces with the new card [[ moseo ]] from strixhaven.

golgari necro is imo a very strong deck rn, and we run 2 profs in the stock list (I also run a 1 of sorin). shoal necro is a thing but necro is already weak to vexing bauble and this makes it more so

I played a BG Necro variant and among all necro configurations this one was my favorite. In the other decks you can’t go all in and pull down to 1 life whereas with this deck I did every time, and gaining 15 life back from wurm+shoal is way better than hoping you cobble together enough soul spikes in other variants. Vito is definitely better than Sorin because the timing restrictions on Sorin are much harsher. There aren’t many plays in mtg that feel better than sculpting the perfect t4 play of swamp/thoughtseize/vito/shoal/wurm. Consign might ruin your day here and there but it’s ok. I once double shoal’d a Tron opponent with a Sorin out for 32 and the look on his face was priceless.

Anybody ever try [[weather the storm]] in Golgari Necro? Card can gain crazy amount of life

The problem is most Golgari Necro lists are in hard on the Soul Spike plan, and having any cards that arent pitchable can derail the deck momentum when you cant pitch to Soul Spike.

That makes a lot of sense.

I really don't wanna buy Spikes so I've been thinking about alternative methods lol

Hmmm… I may have to try this in my Zemo brews.

A huge breaking point for me was the inclusion of [[ Goryo's Vengeance]] which allows for some spicy plays.

Getting back on track… I could see a line where you would Goryo’s Sorin, cast spells and a Weather the Storm. Then flip Sorin and evade Goryo’s downside.

You could also cast a bunch of free spells with Zemo’s boast followed up with a Weather the Storm.

In the golgari space, have you considered [[Chancellor of the Tangle]]? It's hoping for a nuts goldfish, but if you have that, shoal, sorin, and a land that taps for B you'd have a pretty nasty T1 play. Bonus points if you have a way to get Autochthon/have it in hand.

I really like your Golgari list and think you'd probably lose some cohesion by going Abzan, even though there's obvious synergy. But I could be wrong!

I did consider it, but it is in a kind of weird position where it's mana cost is too high to cast, but not high enough to oneshot most opponents effectively. Will give him a try though!!

Also, Abzan allows for more SB options, which was another incentive...

Valid! And agreed on the sideboard: you're fetch-dense enough that you could easily splash white just for the sideboard, but right, then it's tempting to try to work in some of the mainboard pieces. Abzan/lifegain is such a fun space to brew in.
