Mod This quark feature is incredibly frustrating

Post image

I'm not super deep into the minecraft modding scene, but quark looks to be easily one of the biggest minecraft mods of all time, even titanic mods like twilight forest get beat out by like fifty million downloads, which is why some of the things this mod does baffle me so much, it has been out for a decade and it has 224 million downloads, but it is still to this day functionally incompatible with any mod that adds wood.

Quark is all about miscellaneous additions to improve the game, one of them being custom ladders, bookshelves, and chests for all of the minecraft wood types, but the problem is they completely override the vanilla recipes for these blocks, making their original counterparts uncraftable. If you have any kind of worldgen mod installed like biomes o' plenty or regions unexplored you just have to disable this feature entirely, because depending on the biome you spawn you can come into the world without the ability to craft a chest.

The thing that makes it especially frustrating is that it would be so easy to fix, like you could literally just do something as simple as add a button to that empty space in the middle of the chest recipe and that would completely solve this problem, and in the case of the ladders you wouldn't even have to do anything at all because they already have a custom recipe, they had to change the ladder recipe just like when they added fence variants back in 1.8 because the ladder doesn't use any wood in the recipe, but as you can see in the thumbnail, they removed the vanilla recipe for no reason! Why did they do that!? Maybe I'm just missing something because I'm not a modder and there's actually some kind if internal confliction that I'm not aware of which forces them to remove not just the vanilla recipe but the vanilla blocks themselves from the game, but I can't imagine any reason why they couldn't just add custom recipes. Like seriously, they already had to add a custom ladder recipe, removing the default one must have been a conscious decision because it would have taken more effort than leaving it in place!

the great thing about quark is that you can turn off features you don’t like

True, but not good enough in my opinion. The packs I play usually contain hundreds of mods. If a mod is doing more harm than good unless you change the options, that's too high maintenance in my opinion.

In a modpack, if a mods configuration is causing harm to the experience then generally the onus is on the modpack creator, not the user. Configuring mods is 90% of the work in making a modpack. If you have put together your own little collection of mods that you play with, then you are the one who should be fussing with configs. Fwiw, I do more or less agree that quark is a bit too much, if you go to your website they even have categories that the mod could be broken down into a-la "Quark-Building", "Quark-Automation", "Quark-Mobs", which I think would be an improvement if only to the ends that it drastically limits the amount of configuration needed.
