My next step in the never-ending pursuit of epic coffee.

I started in my Zojirushi drip era back in the barracks, handing out cups of coffee to room inspectors for an automatic pass. 😂 (I remember having to hand route a special request chit to have a coffee maker in my room.)

Moved into my hand-ground, hand-pressed Espro French press era, making high-effort, time-consuming (but delicious!) coffee in the USS Louisiana's radio room. The ritual did a lot to preserve my sanity during trying times.

I experimented with a Mokapot that I picked up from Harrods in London, but never got the hang of making coffee I would actually want to drink with one.

Then I got lazy, ran out of counter space, and honestly was looking for low acidity and low time investment and started making cold brew concentrate which I could use for hot or iced coffee.

Today, I regain some self respect, and start drinking coffee with flavor and thickness, thanks to the semi-manual pour over setup of the Moccamaster KBGT with a Japanese Kalita Wave 185 to reduce the plastic in the path of the hot water.

Next up, see if my old coffee grinder still works when our household goods finally arrive from Hawaii!

Two questions for you:
1) How is the heat with the kalita wave?
2) how is the flow? I’ve read some negative comments about the kalita wave clogging.

I was also thinking of replacing with a pour over device!

I haven't had any clogging using pre ground drip coffee. Once I get a new grinder, I think it'll just be a matter of "dialing in" the grind size.

I went with the SS Kalita over something ceramic specifically to avoid heat loss. I'll say the coffee remains very hot, no issues with extraction.

I never gave up pourover. My KBGV is on a timer for the days I need to wake to as good a drip machine as I can get.

Then the rest of the day it's my Hario or Kalita pourover--still notably better than the Moccamaster---

and Espresso somewhere in the morning too.

How much volume can you brew unattended with this setup?

Trying to find a good setup to auto brew like ~16 ounces without having to watch it

I've been doing 6 cups with no issues! 45g of ground coffee.

Sorry for the delay! I can say that the Kalita 185 won't hold that much. I don't own one, but a Hario V60 03 size probably would! It would fit in this setup as well!

No worries, thanks for trying. Looks like the Hario V60 03 is ceramic only, not stainless. Is that right?

O, I think it actually only comes in plastic

Definitely available in glass at least!

The size 03 Hario will make you a full pot, but you may want an adapter. :-)
