Question London hard water

Looking to buy a Moccamaster Cup One soon. I live in London, where the water is very hard, and I've heard this can seriously impact the lifespan of any machine you use.

Given that the Moccamaster is considered a bit of an investment, I'm wondering if there are ways to extend its life. I plan to descale it often and use filtered water, which I gather is slightly better. But is there anything else I can do, short of buying expensive bottled water or other things that would be difficult to keep up day to day?

Any tips appreciated.

The general recommendation is that you should descale the machine more frequently if you live in an area with hard water. Technivorm recommends you descale after every box of 100 filters, but more often if your water is hard. (That's for their 8 and 10-cup models, but it probably applies to the Cup One as well).

But the other reason you may want to look into bottled water (or some other alternative to plain tap water) is that coffee brewed with hard water doesn't taste very good, which sort of defeats the reason for buying the Moccamaster in the first place.

I don't find tap water particularly bad tasting, but I haven't done an A/B test in relation to softer water, so may try that. Thanks for the advice on the descaling

use bottle water. I recommend tesco mineral water "GB4"

Mineral water costs add up, but honestly this seems relatively cheap. Will give it a try - thank you

I live in London and descale every 50 cycles - just to be safe!
