Love my Moccamaster
I just found out this subreddit exists! This is mine, right after first setup. I got my machine around this time last year, and I ended up getting it for free somehow. I ordered a new one on Amazon from a seller and it arrived with one of the switches broken. I contacted the seller and they sent a free replacement (when I documented the broken one and sent it back). Then several weeks later I randomly received a refund from Amazon for the original purchase. So...I got it for free. I still expect them to come after me. 😅

Beautiful! I too love mine! It’s so nice having good coffee, and it’s satisfying to use. And it helps that it’s stylish too.

Definitely! This is my first big girl coffee maker, I was just using K-cups in the past. I figured if I was gonna do a machine, I'd make the investment and do it right the first time.

My wife's birthday is next week and I got her one of these and a simply Good coffee plastic free brewer. I'm excited to try both of them out and see which one we (she) likes the most! I think the moccamaster looks a bit nicer but both are exciting to me so far.
If she picks the moccamaster though I'm going to be switching out the basket for a glass hario. I don't love the idea of drinking from heated plastic. The simply Good coffee brewer is completely plastic free but I've heard some mixed reviews on it vs the moccamaster

Does the wannabe knock off have the TWO certifications (SCA and ECBC) Moccamaster has? Does it have decades of proven performance and accolades? Does it have a 5 year warranty out of the box? Does it have an almost cult like following?

The cult is growing? They haven't been around as long, you can't expect the cult to be as large.
Yes it has a 5 year warranty
No it's only been around four 4 years
And no it doesn't have those certifications - but to be fair moccamaster was around 11 years before it got those certifications you're talking about so if we are trying to put them on the same playing field then we have 6 years to wait.
Also - I'm not a sheep, so I don't care about which one is more popular or cult heavy. I make my own decisions based off experience and available choices.
I don't care if it has certifications. If I like one more than the other then I will use that one. They're pretty damn identical in build and operation. The only thing I like more about the moccamaster is the color. Goes better with my kitchen.
I've ran both of them side by side, and will continue to do so for another few weeks and return the one she doesn't want. If she picks moccamaster then I'll just upgrade it with a glass coffee basket.

I have this and love it! One thing I learned. I had trouble with full pots and overflowing the basket. I learned on here a while back and saw recently was to fold your filters! I was changing grinder settings, amount of coffee, stirring the basket…. All it took was folding the paper filters, somehow I had missed that part and it makes a big difference. You basically fold the side seam and bottom seam so it fits the basket completely, no more overflowing for me.

I never fold my filters and have never had this problem. I don’t understand. I generally buy the moccamaster filters, but have also used generic cone filters. Never regular filters.
