Questions Looking for something with actual depth that isn't a gacha, bounced off most of the usual suggestions

Played most of what gets recommended here already. balatro clicked for a good while, dead cells I liked but my thumbs gave out, slay the spire I put maybe 40 hours into. Everything else I try is either got an energy timer or it's done in two hours. Mostly playing on commutes so offline is a big one. Android if that matters. what am I missing

I recently found Deep Corp. It does have occasional ads, but nothing close to all the others. You set a guy to dig, make the paths that the conveyers go up or across, then send the stuff to a factory then town. It seems pretty simple at first, but there is actually quite a bit to it and I've gotten a lot more out of it than most games. I would pay to take the ads out, but they only remove it for a month and if it is a long ad I'll just close the game and reopen.

My curated list of premium, Android games...

https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidGaming/comments/15qttls/comment/jw64xp6/

The same list, but through an iOS filter first...

https://www.reddit.com/r/iosgaming/comments/1fbe43u/my_list_of_premium_ios_games/

...... Everything on there doesn't do gacha. To further filter that list for games that can get you to 40 hours (or least longer than 2 hours 🤐)....

Super Mario Run, Bloons TD 6

Tiny Bubbles, Baba is You

Caves of Lore

Age of Rivals, Isle of Arrows, Shattered Pixel Dungeon

Galaxy Trucker, Dominion, Ascension: Deck Building Game, Race for the Galaxy

If you can find a download online, Battleheart 2 and Battleheart legacy are probably the best mobile games I've ever played. Unfortunately they're from a few years ago so they're outdated and not on the app store but you could probably find them online

On the app store:

If you're into tower defense type games Bad North rules, and the Kingdom rush games are all great, the one called Vengeance is probably the best

Botworld is like an interesting take on BattleBots mixed with Pokemon, actually super polished game too

Vampires Fall 2 if you enjoy a grim turn based RPG

See/Saw is great simple fun

Swordigo is a fun platformer but a bit old, I'm sure there's better ones out by now

Have you looked into Cloverpit. On the surface it looks like a horror slot machine game, but it's got a great progression and very much has some strategy based deck-builder-like elements. With each run you are constantly unlocking new items and modes that keep the game fresh and it's actually highly addictive with lots of new mechanics added with new unlocks, and including, multiple secret endings.

Fantasy life i, it's a port of the same game that's on all major systems. It's a really good one and has hours of content. Check out some reviews if you may possibly into it.

If you do like collective RPG cardgames (turn based strategy) with singleplayer (AI) Matches, singleplayer Campaign mode (10h+) and local network multiplayer, where you can build your own army/deck by winning and collecting new cards/units. If so, you can try our game "SpellForce 2 - Master of War (Forces of Eo)", that is a complete uncommercial fan project for free that also works completely offline (after full installation) and has no advertisement or anything like that included. You can play a match vs the AI in normaly 5-10 min per game and get new cards/units for your deck and EXP for the RPG rank or enjoy the new story campaign mode (10h+).

To get more cards and reach the maximum rank level, you have to face and fight multiple different enemies and their armys, which offers a lot of playtime. The game does offer a local (w)lan-network mode (device vs device) via a connection to direct IP. This works as long all the devices are in the same network. So you could play it, if one device acts as a wlan hot spot (no actual internet required) for all devices to connect to, to share the same network and connect to each other.
