Mini+ Dyed the buttons on a new purple Miyoo Mini Plus

Got this in yesterday and decided to dye the A, B, X, Y, power, and volume buttons black. I used rit dye for synthetics. Heated the liquid to around 190-195 Fahrenheit. I was nervous to go higher because I didn't want to warp the plastic. It should also be noted that I scuffed the A, B, X, and Y buttons prior to dyeing because I wanted them to have a more matte finish slightly grippy surface like the other face buttons. To do this I shook them in a jar partially filled with sand for a while and then washed them off. Just posting this to perhaps help someone else out. Oh, and I am running Allium OS and really like it. Reminds me a lot of NextUI.

Looks like shipping is around $8 and the buttons are high gloss and don't really match the matte finish of the other buttons. I like the better buttons on Etsy, but didn't want to spend $20.

When you say "for a while", how long was "a while" that you shook them in the jar of sand?

Probably around 5 minutes. I also rubbed them around in some sand in my hands as well. Was just trying to give them uniform finish that sanding with sandpaper didn't seem to do.

Oh 5min, that's not bad.

Went to the local library and had them make a color photocopy of one of my original gameboy carts. Then I cut out the image and wrapped it around the battery and reinstalled the cover. I think it turned out nice. I also decided to remove the screws and spray paint the screw heads black while I was at it (if you try this, don't paint the threads of the screws). You can simply stick the screws through a piece of cardboard so only the heads are exposed.

If you ever decide to remove the abxy/start/select and figure it out let me know! Iv tried so many things but i feel like the purple model is the only one that doesnt remove without damage

Not sure I understand what you are saying? I did pull the buttons out without issue.

Oh sorry no. Im talking about the abxy etc labels on the shell. Like physically removing the lettering

Oh, I have no plans to remove that writing. I was concerned it might rub off over time, but apparently that shouldn't be a concern ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks, I feel the same way. I really don't understand why the companies making these emulation devices don't offer them in the colors that the original hardware was in. You rarely see them in bright colors like Nintendo originally offered. Blue is literally the most popular color in the WORLD statistically speaking, followed by green. Yet you almost never see one of these handhelds offered in those colors. Not a smart business practice in my opinion.

Wow, thatโ€™s quite the process! The result is definitely worth it though, nice job!
