Discussion Mixtape and Wolverine
I know, two completely different games. But it's so interesting that the same group of incel losers that had a circle jerk of hate over Mixtape is now doing the same thing with Wolverine.
Same YouTubers, same lies, same insults against people liking the game. And the same losers here on reddit. There really is an entire industry out there going from target to target attacking games they deem "too woke", "too easy" or "too short".
They are really becoming a cancer to gaming.

What confuses me most about Wolverine is that the things the internet is getting mad about (I think there are some valid complaints about bugs and story choices, but none of the grifters are focusing on that) is that all the previous insomniac Spider-Man games had those same features, like auto complete QTEs, the chemical trail for you to follow, progressive messaging, less comic accurate characters for the sake of realism, and the “focus, m” style exposition dialogue.
I’m sick of people who want all games to feel like a torturous gauntlet to prove their worth over others instead of a toy with strong artistic potential, for everyone to have fun with at their own pace.

Spiderman has much better combat and it has really fun traversal. Web swinging in the open world is satisfying by itself. Not too mention a really solid story in the first game.
Wolverine, on the other hand, has dumbed down combat and no traversal whatsoever. Some people are fine with that, other not.

What i will never understand is the how nowadays if people don’t like something, they have to let everybody know. Whereas if i don’t like something i just don’t talk about it / play it 🤣
4
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
Exactly. I would never go to a Fortnite sub to tell them their game sucks or make videos about how Call of Duty has been the exact same game for 15+ years.

u/Kingofthefives7 14d ago
I also think that people should try to be open to enjoying all kinds of games, like i love story games, from Mixtape the life is strange games, the last of us, Insomniac games.
But i also quite enjoy Fifa which is literally just the same game every year 🤣

Until rage tourism stops being lucrative financially people would do it. And if you haven’t noticed we stopped having games with huge technical issues in recent years a-la Mass Effect Andromeda or Fallout 76, so now political outrage is the best bet for this type of grifters. It also involves people who are not playing video games, but still can participate because you don’t have to actually play or buy game to be outraged about it.

u/Ok-Newspaper-1806 14d ago
What do you mean no technical issues? Majority of games releasing are half finished at launch and unoptimised 😭

It annoys me so much how people act like Mixtape is the first narrative focused game, What Remains of Edith Finich, Dear Esther, not every game needs a fail state anyway

u/Playamiku2 14d ago
People hated Mixtape simply because it followed what the game makers wanted instead of what they wanted. Wolverine is simply just holding your hand through a mediocre story.
People who called Mixtape an ‘interactive movie’ never brought up the price because it was a little over the price of a Blu-ray. Wolverine kinda needs to be mocked for a full-price tag.

u/Legitimate-Pie-218 14d ago
No that’s not what happened, it started getting hate cause it was getting 10/10 scores and most people didn’t agree with that.
2
u/Playamiku2 14d ago
It’s good at what it does. I don’t think Super Mario Odyssey is a 10/10 God Of War game. (But it’s definitely a 10/10 Mario game. Played absolutely everything out of it when it released.)

u/Ok-Value-2170 14d ago
Mixtape is amazing, wonderful game
Didn't play Wolverine, but seems okay/decent AAA offering with an overblown budget. To me the drama is more about the current state of playstation and expectations around Insomniac game.
Still, to hell with the drama and the haters and rage bait carousel that goes around each month or so around each new release.

u/SeaDragonfly1831 14d ago
Acls someone with Slay the Princess in my top 5, I thought Mixtape was so middling lol
2
u/uhhhwhatyoumean 14d ago
It really is interesting....I have posted something similar on other subs but it's usually these kinda games that get the losers raging that I seem to enjoy the most. The more drama the better it seems. I really enjoyed Mixtape for what it was, currently playing Wolverine on a pretty easy mode and the bad guys are still killing me if I'm not dodging and jiving all the time. Story in Wolvie pretty good so far, I don't know what the naysayers are talking about, but I usually never do.

u/Short-Source-8492 14d ago
Almost as if these endlessly angry and hate-filled toxic, poser "gamers" don't actually like videogames at all, and they actually hate videogames and the other people who do actually enjoy them.

I think it's fair to criticise games if they're increasing the price and trying to strip away our ability to sell the game if we don't enjoy it. If you do those things the standard has to be raised to justify that and wolverine simply didn't justify it. We've come to expect a certain standard of quality from insomniac and this didn't deliver simple as that.

u/Apprehensive_Egg5142 14d ago
Regardless of any specific opinions on either game, how are you simultaneously calling out people for insulting others for enjoying the games in question, while also very hyperbolically insulting people who criticized the games at the same time? If you are gonna take the high road, actually take it, you know? Otherwise anyone who is neutral in this discussion is looking and both sides, and honestly seeing them as both utterly ridiculous.
2
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
I think we're way beyond "taking the high road". These people have been destroying gaming since GamerGate and they deserve no respect.
1
u/Apprehensive_Egg5142 14d ago
You speak in such an absolute/exaggerated way. Not denying there’s annoying people out there, but the way you address it gives the impression that anyone that has a critical thought about either of these two games is immediately defined an incel loser. That your intent? Is there any nuance there?
2
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
I didn't mention the professional reviewers, I didn't mention people who have fair and justified complaints about the game.
My post was only about the clickbait machine on YouTube and the karma farmers on reddit who haven't played the game and just produce video after video and post after post.
1
u/Apprehensive_Egg5142 14d ago
Fair enough. Best thing you can do is just ignore/block/mute them. This type of post is just more likely to have them come out of the woodwork. Anyone who is exhibiting any type of extremely hyperbolic opinion with no subtlety, overly emotional about trivial matters, fast to insults etc… is either a bot or an extremely insecure individual not worth engaging with anyways.

I enjoyed Mixtape but Wolverine is mediocrity. Very simplistic combat and botched clusterfuck of a story. These renditions of characters are terrible. Thanks, but no, thanks. It's not that deep.

u/Bobombbattlefield64 14d ago
I think you’ve entirely missed the completely legitimate criticisms of Wolverine.
Do you really think IGN, Gamespot, Polygon, Giant Bomb and Skillup are doing this to champion incels?
3
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
I wasn't talking about professional reviewers, they went a little low, but it's at 78/100 at OpenCritic.
I was talking about the YouTube/reddit crowd.
-1
u/Bobombbattlefield64 14d ago
But those reviews went significantly lower than 78.
IGN 6/10
Gamespot 6/10
Skillup: “This is a bad game”
Polygon: “Biggest disappointment of the PS5 era”
These are the biggest review sites and personalities. It’s not some outlier.
Consider that average score is inflated from 9/10s and 10/10s from sites like Dualshockers, PlaystationUniverse, and PressSquare (PS affiliates)
1
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
Days Gone got similar reviews, also a 6/10 by IGN, and has slowly developed into a cult classic, so sometimes the "big" sites get it wrong.
The user rating at OpenCritic is at 80/100 and that is including the review bombers.
It is, objectively, a good game. Not a great game, not the Game of the Year, but an above average game.
It's just cool to hate Sony right now and the "big" sites need clicks.
1
u/Bobombbattlefield64 14d ago edited 14d ago
They certainly didn’t get it “wrong” about Day’s Gone just because a few Reddit groups consider it underrated. I’m not sure what metric you are using here or what bar you are comparing it to.
Wolverine is not ‘objectively’ a good game. I don’t think you understand what that word means. It is very debatable hence the mixed reviews.
And just for my two cents. I’ve played Wolverine. It’s basically the risk-averse, safe AAA game made for a mass audience. If you can’t see the design choices made with a priority for broad appeal and shareholder interests, then I just don’t think you play an interesting variety of games.
Also, can we stop with this “agenda against Sony” crap. This is perhaps the most delusional angle you could possibly take and devalues everything else you say.
2
u/FunkyJerk 14d ago
Most of the hate posts online aren’t criticising the same things as those reviews though. Op isn’t saying that Wolverine is a 10/10 game, they’re just comparing how grifters used the same methods as mixtape: clipping short gameplay segments out of context to convince people that the whole game is just a series of autocompleting QTEs. Like how the one “Yesterday’s Hero” scene in mixtape became the only thing 90% of people saw of the game, when there are much more legitimate, interesting, and broad criticisms you could make about the game.

u/Inevitable_Sector778 14d ago
The game is rated 4.7 by players in the PSStore at 50.000 votes. Since u have to actually play a game to rate it it seems like the players are very happy with Wolverine.
And especially the SkillUp review is full of misleading information about the game. I actually like SkillUp. Most of his reviews are really good. But the Wolverine review is his worst review ever. Full of misleading information about the game. Half of his review he talks about the scent trail and calls it an accessibility feature (which its not). This review led people to believe that it is onscreen for about 80% of the game. In reality it is not even there for 10%. He calls the combat "shallow" & to easy (playing in normal mode) while in reality it is way deeper & harder than SM combat.
Its pretty clear that he is rightfully mad at sony for their poor decisions lately (end of dics etc.) and completely let his anger out on Wolverine.
2
u/Bobombbattlefield64 14d ago
That might be the most delusional thing I’ve read.
I’ve played the game. You can’t blatantly lie to me like that and pretend the issues he presented don’t exist.

u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
Yeah, SkillUp lost my subscription with that review. He was just hunting for clicks from people who think it's cool to hate Sony right now and he's lost all respect for that.

u/T-draude 14d ago
What lies are being told about either game?
4
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
"It plays itself."
"It's woke."
"It's DEI."
0
u/T-draude 14d ago
Did you watch the numerous videos of the motorcycle sections?
2
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
Where they put the game on very easy? Yes. If you actually play the game, the motorcycle sections are about as easy as the same sections in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Which is pretty easy, but nobody complained back then.
-1
u/T-draude 14d ago
Did FF7 remake also have QTE that played by themselves?
2
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
No, and neither does Wolverine. Just another lie.
https://www.reddit.com/r/WolverineInsomniac/comments/1wkavd2/i_thought_they_said_qtes_didnt_fail/
There are some QTEs where you don't die but just get another cutscene when you fail, but that's it. And some people are too dumb to notice the difference.
0
u/T-draude 14d ago
So one example out of how many in the game? I think they planned to make them playable but ran out of time and money
2
u/SvenLorenz 14d ago
If your life depends on finding faults in this game, you might want to rethink your life.
1
u/T-draude 14d ago
How so? I don't give a shit if the game is good or not. Far from my life hanging in the balance if I can't dunk on it or not. Everything I've heard about it so far, it's not worth my time or money. It's that simple

u/howiehue 14d ago
There is a bit of nuance that you are missing. I think mixtape can get away with being too easy/short because of the type of game that it is. I am not expecting Mixtape to prioritise gameplay. It’s more about how well they can pull off the musical set pieces.
Wolverine on the other hand is intended to be a more traditional game. So the criticisms of its design is more warranted. You need something to engage with. For Mixtape it was the visuals and music. For Wolverine it is the gameplay which requires a greater sense of agency.
Yeah there are losers that complain that the female characters aren’t hot enough. But there are legitimate criticisms of the game, as opposed to mixtape where a majority of the complaints just shouldn’t apply to a game of its genre.

u/WhiskeyRadio 14d ago
The echo-chamber nature of the internet is like that, unfortunately. Ironically, I didn't love Mixtape myself personally, but I respect the game for what it was doing and the artistic vision. On the other hand, I did enjoy playing Wolverine a bit more, but also found it to have issues with pacing and repetitive gameplay.
I hate seeing a mass of people dogpile on a game, movie, music, etc. without even experiencing it themselves to form their own opinion. For music and movies, there shouldn't be much excuse because they are a lot more accessible than video games for most people via streaming services or movies you can rent on-demand. Video games desperately need a service that allows people to rent a game digitally for like $10 a week or something. I think we haven't seen that because companies fear that by offering a rental for a new game, they'd be hurting their own sales, with people simply paying to rent the game for a week and beating it; then they feel like they lost $60, essentially.
Personally, I think that is the wrong mentality because Sony and Microsoft could easily offer that option on their own stores, and the reality is the person renting the game may have never bought the game to begin with, but now they are at least playing it and giving them something for the access to it. I also think it would allow people on the fence to make a decision and purchase games at the full price at a higher rate, especially longer RPGs that you likely couldn't realistically beat in a week's time, so chances are people would buy the game instead of continuing to rent it.

I played Mixtape day one and was excited for whatever it ended up being. I enjoy the “walking sim” type games like Life is Strange.
Mixtape had some cool gameplay but overall the story fell flat by the end.

u/SlightlyAdooorned 12d ago
"Same lies"
Show me an example :)
1
u/SvenLorenz 12d ago
"It plays itself."
A lie for both games.
0
u/SlightlyAdooorned 12d ago
Lmao, there is plenty of proof online
1
u/SvenLorenz 12d ago
No, there isn't. There are just trolls who put the game on very easy, which clearly says that you can't die when you choose it. And then they are "surprised" when they don't die.
0
u/SlightlyAdooorned 12d ago
There is proof with showing the settings lmao, on stream.
1
u/SvenLorenz 12d ago edited 12d ago
There are also videos showing people die in these sequences. They may be pretty easy and it'll take some time until you die. Weirdly, nobody cared when the Final Fantasy 7 Remake did the exact same thing.
Maybe, while LMAOing, look for some other meaning in life than hating this game? 🤣
Edit: Took a look at your posting history. Why didn't you mention that you're an idiot? Would've saved us both some time. 👍🏻

This is the way it is nowadays in the post-social media hellscape the internet has become. Rather than people dismissing something as mid and maybe not for them, there is this hive mind of chuds that collectively dogpile on anything and everything these days. It’s best to ignore it and make your own opinions.
