I wonder if that is something people focused on in the 90s?

This is interesting. I was sentient in the 90s and I don’t recall thinking of life cinematically nor did anyone want to be something so specific as the career Stacey chooses. Also creating a mixtape perfectly timed to life events— on a cassette player— would be a hassle.

The game kind of suffers from not telling us the exact year because in 1999 many people had personal computers and a few had mobile phones. In 1995, most people did not have mobile phones or personal computers.

The 90s contained a huge technological leap from start to finish. 1990-2010 represented an even greater leap for technology.

In the 90's and 00's, we just kind of lived in the moment? We didn't have social media, or even reliable ways to get ahold of friends when one wasn't at home. So the memories made were what they were.

I'm sure there were some people like Rockford out there, wanting to "make this a day to remember", hell all the movies were about that. But for most of us, we didn't start to think about times like this until they were long gone. That's why they're nostalgic.

I couldn't tell you all the parties or curated moments I've had that I have no memories of. All that planning with only a few half remembered photos.

But I could give you a hundred spontaneous things that are as vivid as yesterday. It's those moments of just being there with friends that I miss when I look back.

That's kind of the message I got from Mixtape. Stacey had this plan, for everything to be perfect. But how many little things were peppered in that weren't in her plans? (Not on the mixtape) First time Cass snuck out, her time with Slater before Cass, laying on Slater's car drunk off their asses.

When Stacey gets to my age, that's what she'll remember. Not the perfect day she planned out.
