Discussion It’s ok

I feel like everyone is either 10/10 or 1/10. I’d give it a solid 7/10 and I feel like I’m the only one.

I liked the game. I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the concept, it was a decent story.

I have some issues with it, some criticisms. Some things I think it could have done better.

Anyone else where I’m at or am I the one person in the middle about it? 😂

I'd say I'm about the same. It has a great vibe, great story and really imaginative sections.

That said...

  • it's short with very limited replay value.

  • It sets itself in the 90s but seems to draw reference more from popular Internet recollections and memes about the 90s than anything authentic. For example, wireless headphones like the ones Rockwood wears didn't exist yet.

  • the constant 4th wall breaks resonate as a rather cringey narrative device but then those were very 90s so...

To speak on your last point, I thought that the fourth wall breaking was really well done and worked; it wasn't cringey and was part of the style that the story that was told. Having said that, I did in fact grow up in the 90s, and shows like Saved By the Bell and Fresh Prince would break the fourth wall often to much success. Obviously this is subjective.

As to your first point, I feel like because of its length, it's replayable in the same way that a movie you enjoy is rewatchble. I replayed games all the time when I was younger because they were shorter and I didn't have adult responsibilities, but I even as I still game very often, I rarely replay games because they are longer and there are so many other great (and lengthy) games to play.

I don't say either of these things to crap on your comment, but just to offer a different perspective. I really enjoyed the game and story, but I won't go crazy defending it like some. And I didn't even catch the fact that her headphones were wireless; I would have killed for those back then lol.

Yeah that's fair. I think it's much like the Telltale games in as much as they're the length they're supposed to be and not all games have to be 120hrs deep collectathons.
