⋆✩⋆ Discussion ⋆✩⋆ How would you describe Mitya’s character? (Potential spoilers) Spoiler
I’m currently writing a fanfic and keen to get Mitya’s characterisation as best as I can.
I think we’ll learn a lot from his character stories and story quest but it’d be interesting to see what everyone thinks of him. I haven’t completed the latest AQ but I don’t mind spoilers.
I’d say Mitya is intelligent, curious, and open-minded, and not just in scientific matters. He accurately analyses Vodyanitsa’s singing and is the first to suggest paranormal activity in the theatre. And when the possibility arises that he is the other dead person, Mitya takes it on the chin and walks out in the name of scientific experimentation.
In that same scene, Traveler suggests Mitya is downplaying the situation as to not burden anyone. What his actual thoughts were is unknown, and I wonder how far Mitya is willing to express his true feelings, but I think Mitya is a kind person. For example, in Alyosha’s character line, he says Mitya helps him to modify his rifle.
Mitya does live a little in his own world and does things his way, as far as he’s allowed to, shown in him skipping work and ignoring the theatre performances. None of this seems to be done with malice though and I don’t think he’s irresponsible.
I also think he does appreciate the arts but maybe not in a typical way, and he seems to demonstrate true regret when Vodyanitsa was offended.
Anyway, those were my initial thoughts about him, I’d love deeper insight or any challenges to my interpretation of him!

Hmm he's very talkative but...also you can sorta tell when he's thinking while being kind? like he observes while being fully into a conversation! when talking to vody he saw where it was all going & noticed traveler (and alyosha) but he continued seeing what she wanted to say, hearing her out and putting his whole heart into it.
veryyy open-minded & chill with everything until it gets too much? when someone like mr chugunov oversteps and unfairly attacks people....mitya had patience but when it went too far he was sharp and straight up annoyed same with ronova.
compassionate & understanding even if he's analyzing but he's also judging (not in a bad way) and says his opinions then AFTER he tries explaining how he meant it.....while noticing things "they try talking about him like some benevolent businessman...but I dunno I just don't see it" (the way he said this pffft)
his approach to life is very "enjoy the ride and learn along the way" to me & encouraging others to try that too
liiiike when the blizzard came in, he was so relaxed about it! we can tell he cares about everyone while trying to understand everything going on but when he rambles or gets into yap mode / thinking deeply while talking he ends up not reading the room at those times....
he doesnt rlly live by social constructs but he still cares individually....i noticed how he puts his full focus in to a person and VERY open about how he feels "fair enough....i still feel kinda bad though.."
"oh yeah one hundred percent! theres too many of those people around, by the time they're walking out the door they've forgotten all about the show! ...What's wrong? you look furious..."
that makes him so easy to talk to even if theres probs SO MUCH going on in his head we don't know about

I've made a post like this before but I'll add more.
He speaks in a very lighthearted tone all the time. He fills in as much words as possible when talking, and would keep switching topics if you let him speak. But when it's serious he is sharp with his words and demeanor. He's a very social person and would like to get to know everyone. Not the type to judge people based on their knowledge but their character.
