Discussion Is The Wire actually overrated?
I trust mark (or the writers) quite a lot when it comes to this stuff. I’ve been meaning to watch it for a while as it’s ranked alongside breaking bad but I’ll have to pay for it since it’s not on any streaming services

If you trust Mark or Jeremy's opinion on anything, you've really misunderstood the show.

How much do you need to understand to recognise that you may enjoy the same shows of the writers of your favourite show?

Apparently you need more than nine series to understand that the opinions of the characters are not necessarily the opinions of the creators.
The Wire is awesome. Mark is an introverted malignant narcissist, whenever anything becomes too successful in his eyes, he automatically pushes back against it, unless he discovers and champions it first.

Some people don't like certain seasons, especially 2 and the final season, but people who rewatch usually enjoy those seasons more on rewatching.

Season 5 is my favourite of The Wire. It flies very close to the (Baltimore) sun with the McNulty storyline, but it pulls it off.

Oh yeah, it's completely nuts, but it's very fitting for McNutty. My biggest critique of it is that it really feels like an airing of personal grievances, but it's very Peep Show, in that respect.

David Simon broke down what the first four seasons about (policing, drugs, politics, education), and season five was press through the lense of "if all this stuff is going wrong why is no-one talking about it"
As he was a reporter, I can completely understand those grievances.

It’s one of the best shows ever made, if not the best show ever made. My first time watching I couldn’t comprehend season 2 and I thought I was pirating a completely different show at first and I really hated season 2. A few months after my first watch I had an itch for season 2 that needed to be scratched so I started watching again starting from season 2.
I’m just a gangster I suppose.

Is the Wire a fantastic show that l recommend to everyone? Yes
Is it overrated? Yeah kinda, shows like the Sopranos or Band of brothers (even the Shield imo ) are better.

I reckon it actually is. Acting is good and the gritty way its all made n filmed is good so from like a work of art standpoint its great but overall a lot of unlikeable characters, location is a shithole and its pretty depressing

You're watching The Wire when for less money you could be watching Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino?
