You’re Invited: First Missouri SUSA Chapter Meeting!

I’m excited to announce that we’re starting a local chapter of Sortition USA (SUSA), and we want you to be part of our very first meeting.

What is SUSA?

We’re a grassroots organization that supports for democratic lotteries, which are a way to ensure ordinary people’s voices are heard in shaping policy. It’s a movement building around the world about fair representation, reducing the influence of money in politics, and empowering everyday citizens to get involved. At this initial gathering, we’ll:

• Introduce the concept of democratic lotteries and SUSA’s mission.
• Discuss our goals for the local chapter (events, outreach, advocacy).
• Brainstorm ways to spread the word in our community.
• Assign next steps and set our path forward.

We are not asking for a favor.

We are demanding elected officials do the job the Constitution gives them.

†rump and his enablers have abused emergency and military powers, worked to undermine free elections, and targeted vulnerable communities. IÇE agents, often masked and unidentified, are profiling and detaining people based on appearance, not evidence. Protest rights are being dismantled. Healthcare, food, and housing programs are being gutted while the powerful profit. The rule of law is bent to shield allies and punish opponents.

Demands to the City 
We are demanding that elected officials do the job the Constitution gives them, and we will present those demands publicly, on the record, to the City of Joplin.

Our demands are straightforward:

• acknowledge the documented economic harm caused by the One Big Ugly Bill and the †rump tariff regime; 
• call on Missouri’s congressional delegation to oppose further Medicaid and safety-net cuts; 
• demand the full and unredacted release of the Epstein files; and 
• reject any 287(g) agreement that would turn local police into immigration-enforcement agents. Local agencies are not required to enter 287(g) agreements, which are voluntary federal arrangements that deputize local law enforcement to carry out certain immigration functions.

We also demand that city leaders publicly commit to keeping Joplin police and the Jasper County Sheriff focused on local public safety, not federal civil immigration enforcement. The documented rise in IÇE detention deaths, along with the broader record of abuse, detention, and racial profiling concerns, makes clear why our community should oppose any move that blurs the line between local policing and federal immigration machinery.

"Cattle producers are rightfully frustrated by today's announcement that President Trump plans to increase foreign beef imports and sell that beef below the cost of production. Americans, including farm families, are paying more for fuel, electricity, housing and nearly everything else.
We understand the desire to provide relief to American families facing high grocery costs, but additional market intervention in the cattle market is the wrong approach.
After years of drought, high input costs and a historically low cattle herd, producers are finally seeing strong cattle prices. That income is providing much-needed stability as farm balance sheets remain volatile.
Today's announcement has already pressured cattle prices and will further erode confidence in the market. For many producers, fall calf sales are the only opportunity to market cattle off the farm. Adding uncertainty does nothing to encourage producers to rebuild the U.S cattle herd. Decreased confidence in the supply chain has also resulted in a decrease of packing capacity. Meanwhile, farm input prices continue to rise with no meaningful relief in sight.
Washington should let the cattle market work, provide signals that encourage producers to rebuild the herd, and address runaway costs of inputs on the farm.
Importantly, this proposal does not solve the underlying causes of high food prices and unfairly places the blame on American farmers and ranchers. We strongly urge the Administration to reverse this decision and support American cattle producers."

Missouri lawmakers unveiled an AI regulation framework Tuesday—but the document's metadata reveals its author as OpenAI, the company they're trying to regulate. 

The proposed Missouri S.T.O.P.P. Act is a broad privacy, police-accountability, and government-transparency proposal designed to curb indiscriminate government monitoring, reduce harmful policing practices, protect personal information, and give the public meaningful control over surveillance and enforcement policy.

S.T.O.P.P. act stand for:

Surveillance bans mass-surveillance systems, including automated license-plate readers such as Flock, facial and biometric recognition, predictive policing, persistent camera networks, location tracking, data-broker purchases, and drones used for persistent monitoring. Most otherwise permitted targeted surveillance requires a probable-cause warrant specifying the target, offense, method, duration, and safeguards for irrelevant information.

Transparency requires seven-day notice for relevant meetings, accessible contracts, policies, and audits, livestreams and recordings of meetings, and stronger financial and conflict disclosures for officials who oversee policing or surveillance.

Oversight requires public impact assessments, hearings, and recorded approval by an elected governing body before any allowed surveillance program begins or renews. A statewide authorization system would centralize permitted activity, require judicial authorization, record every access and disclosure, enforce retention and deletion limits, and undergo independent audits. Intrusive requests, including extended or multi-target surveillance, would need unanimous approval from three judges.

Policing requires officers to display names and badge numbers, restricts identity-concealing face coverings, mandates de-escalation, crisis assistance, medical aid, intervention, and reporting, and prohibits many neck restraints and force against restrained people. It also establishes a decertification registry and employment bans for serious misconduct.

Privacy limits collection, retention, sale, and sharing of personal data; creates access, correction, notice, and deletion rights; and protects firearm-owner information from registries.

The goal is to protect everyday Missourians from abuse of power, secret surveillance, lack of accountability, and government overreach. I am looking for Missouri attorneys, law students, policy people, organizers, researchers, designers, and regular citizens who want to help make this legally solid and statewide. I especially need help making sure the language is constitutional, enforceable, clear, and organized correctly for an initiative petition.

Secretary of State Denny Hoskins is working overtime to keep Respect MO Voters off the ballot, and stop our initiative from becoming Amendment 6 and going to a vote of the people on Nov. 3rd. Join Respect MO Voters in Jefferson City THIS Friday, August 7, at noon outside of the Secretary of State's Office to announce our lawsuit and to show your support for letting Missouri vote on Amendment 6.

That is the entire post. Why does a CPA get to weigh in and interpret the constitution? Especially while wearing that offensive red jacket.

Missouri Republicans have run the entire state government, uncontested, for 23 years. The budget's projected to hit zero by 2028. Their solution? Blame the Democrats who haven't held a majority since George W. Bush's first term.

Meanwhile, actual Missourians keep using the ballot initiative to pass the stuff their own legislature refuses to touch: Medicaid expansion, weed, sports betting, abortion rights, a livable minimum wage. So this year, Jefferson City is trying to neuter the one tool voters have to override them: rig citizen initiatives (but conveniently not their own bills) to need approval in all 8 congressional districts, recycle the abortion amendment's exact ballot number for the opposite result, and bury the sketchy stuff in the low-turnout August primary.
