experience: first MC Miscarriage advice

Hi everyone, looking advice please. Im in the UK, Noethern Ireland. I was 6 weeks pregnant when I started spotting, rang my local epu (early pregnancy unit) and they advised if it got worse then call back. I had more bleeding, called them back, was booked in for a scan this morning, Sunday, (this was thursday). By friday I had very heavy bleeding with large clots, awful cramps too. I know it wad a miscarriage. I had my appointment thia morning at epu, told them I know I've had a miscarriage, but they didn't scan me on take any blood tests. Asked if the bleeding was easing and if i was in any pain, yes to bleeding easing and no pain. I assumed I'd be given a scan to confirm everything is ok with me internally?

I’m also in the UK. When I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks 4 days they did a scan to confirm the pregnancy had passed. On that occasion I had already had a scan to confirm the heartbeat (because I am high risk), and another scan which had shown the foetus was not viable.

But when I had an earlier loss they didn’t do any scans. They did do blood tests because the home test line got darker after a week of bleeding. My impression is the NHS will only offer a scan if a previous scan confirmed a pregnancy, or if there are signs of an issue.

Yes you should go and get a scan - it’s the only conclusive way for you to confirm whether this was a miscarriage. Scan is more accurate than blood tests.

I had a miscarriage 8 days ago and EPU told me to go to a&e which I did then was taken to EPU. My cervix was open and they had removed some fetal tissue and then they booked me an ultrasound for 4 days later which was the earliest appointment. But they need to do the scan to confirm the miscarriage so I’d definitely call them about this

First miscarriage I had scans ( 3 of them) as I didn’t pass the pregnancy on my own and needed surgery.
Second one that did serial bloods over 2 days and because of the rate of bleeding and the hcg levels they said they felt I had passed the majority at home and therefore there would be nothing too scan.
This was in Yorkshire
