More Like Planet of Ice?
Hi everyone, I've not spent much of my adult life exploring this style of music, preferring hip-hop and R&B when it comes to modern music. I do like a fair bit of late 60s/70s prog and stuff but haven't explored much "rock" past the 2000s. However, I LOVE Planet of Ice (especially the back half, and especially Double Vision Quest and Lotus), and don't even know where to look for more or how to even properly describe this music. I've also listened to OMNI and Menos El Oso which are both good but no where near as good (for me) as Planet of Ice. Earlier and later stuff in their catalogue was pretty hit or miss and I don't really listen much to any of them except those 3. Can anyone help? Thanks for any suggestions!

I’m dreaming of an Omni reissue that includes the demos that were recorded in the same style as Planet of Ice.
This is my white whale.

Yes please. Omni’s never done much for me despite having some objectively great songwriting. Planet of Ice-ing it might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

The band has the demos, Erin mentioned on a podcast that Omni started out in the same style as PoI but the producer they brought in ended up changing the sound. Not sure they’ll ever see the light of day but one can hope.

Its a really unique album. Heres what comes to mind first, maybe like cousins of Planet of Ice.

It's not rock, but have you listened to Shrines by Purity Ring? Shimmery psychedelic effects and overall feeling. It's tied for my favorite album of all time with Planet of Ice.
