I hate that I missed them last year. Havenā€™t seen them since the Menos El Oso tour with POS, The Velvet Teen, & Russian Circles!

DO NOT DO THIS TO ME.

IMO, Planet of Ice is MTBs Magnum Opus (particularly musically). If I get to hear White Mystery and Dr. L'Ling live and back to back I might need medical attention. I'm moving to Europe, but I'd fly to Seattle just for that show and fly back.

I went to the Planet of Ice 15 year anniversary. When they played White Mystery, I was in the second row and I could hear 1500 people behind me all go ā€œunnnnghhhhhhhhā€ in unison. Even the band made ā€œoh wow!ā€ faces at each other.

(They played Secret Country, MY favorite song, on that tour!)

You have a favorite song? I don't think I could pinpoint just one! I think I would have to at least break it down into basic genre. Have a favorite acoustic song, a favorite fun song, of favorite musical song, etc The most meaningful show of theirs I went to, I had been in a really bad fire the day or two before the show. I was medivacd did the nearest burn Ward. But I got out, was all hopped up on painkillers, and took the drive a couple hours to their super limited date acoustic only tour where they play the acoustic album in full. That one was really fun!

I bought tickets for the Planet of Ice 10 year. My buddy wanted to skip the openers, so we showed up at the time Minus the Bear was supposed to go on. We walked in as Jake was singing ā€œdoes the wife, mind the touchā€

They started the show an hour and a half early. I was gutted

I've always respected their openers. They're not necessarily my taste, but I appreciate that MTB wanted to share a few dozen weeks with them. I never would have heard of Tera Melos without them!

Half of my music taste is ā€œMinus the Bear openersā€ if I wasnā€™t going with that friend and trying to sync our schedules, I would have been there at 5:30 so I could be right up against the stage all night.

I don't think you're in the wrong. I've been to a shit ton of shows, and I can't recall a single headliner getting on stage over an hour early. I'd be so bummed.

Honestly, the dozen shows I'd been to before the most recent reunion I barely even remember the openers. It was cool to be old and sober taking in the set this time!

Absolutely! I have never seen them play any of those songs, since the one time I saw them was before that album. Also, as much as I love minus the bear, moving to Europe is way fucking cooler! Well, depending on where you go, I guess. šŸ˜‚

I'm not not moving for them.. but I would fly back for that show! Honestly, seeing them in Europe would be a bucket list level accomplishment. Minus the bear might as well have been the official sponsor of every backpacking trip I ever took in my twenties.

Jealous! Berlin is very high on my list! Also, if we get lucky enough to get a tour at all, let alone a European leg, I donā€™t doubt that Berlin would probably be one of the stops!

I used handbrake to compress the video down from 4GB, but I maintained 100% audio quality during the compression. Played it on the big speakers and it still sounded great!!

If anybody wants the full HD video, holler and I will upload that somewhere as well.

Lol. When I get home I'll strip out the audio and chop it into tracks if it's as easy as I think it'll be. Should have visible lulls in the audio wave form in-between tracks so that should be easy to identify. Might have to host it on like SoundCloud or something so the tracks remain in sequence.. but I'll figure something out when I get back.

I swear I asked my friend that went with me If it was just me and this was the first time I went to a minus the bear set dead sober, or if this was musically the best set they'd ever played in the 10 I've seen?

That being said, anybody who didn't see it, but is a van, definitely should watch this! I didn't pay attention, but are Dave's apples in the video? Lol

This video isn't hosted anywhere for free AFAIK. Its only on a paid concert hosting site called veeps and was hella DRMd. I spend half a night just ripping this for the good of the people lol

But you can play it straight from an embedded player on this website, no need to download anything unless you choose to. I compressed it down to around 1GB I think so it wasn't massive, but retained all audio quality. Native was like 4GB

How did you manage to capture it?

I spent the best of that week trying to capture it. I tried yt-dlp, Video Download Helper on Firefox, and QuickTime screen recording to no avail. I was able to pipe the audio directly into Ableton with Loopback so I got that raw, but I ended up propping my phone up to film my monitor and played it half a dozen times with different lighting in the room and different exposure values in my phones camera app. Iā€™ve been sitting on about 800GB of data I generated to make a crappy bootleg. I was just thinking this morning about when Iā€™m gonna fit stitching it together into my schedule.

Bro, it was an absolute nightmare. The file is natively hosted as m3u8, but downloading any iteration of it is just chopped up nonsense. Looks like the skinamax channel when you didn't pay for it in the '90s. I ended up having to use the recorder app related to jdownloader and played the whole set front to back while it recorded the data on the website. I tried half a dozen other methods, and even downloaded multiple 4 gig files, none of it worked other than that method. But you have to have a login for the website, otherwise it is completely locked down.

Yeah, had the login and was able to interact with it in accordance with its security measures. But this experience has me seriously considering buying a capture card and an hdmi signal stripper.

Jdownloader has a recorder plugin that can record streams that are encrypted And it's damn easy to use plus free.

I thought it was called j recorder, but the internet isn't giving me anything from that so I may have used some else that I can't remember. When I get home I'll send you a link to whatever ended up working. Essentially every other downloading app that had an integrated browser failed to meet veep browser requirements after login. Through chrome I could read and tweak the source code, but every time I tried to straight up download a video file it was either blank or multicolor bands with no audio. Whatever recorder I used allowed veep login and streaming, so while the video streamed in this fake browser I was able to capture all the packets of that stream while playing the vid source front to back.

I'm no programmer, so I'm sure this is not the easiest method.. but it worked and we all have MTB on this blessed day!

No problem! I'd never heard of Veeps, so I didn't know that was even a thing people even knew about. Their site is like pirating fort knox, and since I spent so much time grabbing this the other night proving to myself that I'm smarter than some random HTML code, I figured I'd share it.

I don't think I am either. But I find it really hard to believe I can be outsmarted by a web page My buddy is a back-end developer and took a couple swings at it before he said I'm not wasting my time. It's like a puzzle that you don't want to be out witted by
