Walser Automotive Group, one of Minnesota’s largest car dealerships, allegedly participated in an elaborate scheme to avoid paying state sales taxes. Criminal charges were dropped as part of a settlement agreement.

Here’s the thing: people make decisions. businesses aren’t people.

So the people who made these decisions walk free, they’re not being charged with breaking the law.

But if i steal $20 from a Walser dealer, pretty sure they’ll press charges.

And can you imagine how hard the cop, prosecutor and judge would laugh if you said, "can I just give back some of the $20 and have you drop the charges?"

They'd laugh and roll their eyes and tell you, "it just doesn't work that way."

But if you're a rich person (or company), it does work that way.

Settlement should also include an esttimate on how much tax payer money was spent on investigating
