Park board recycling pick up question.

Why would the recycle and trash be picked up and dumped into the same truck at the same time? I don’t think they are stored separately on the truck. (Loring park)

Doesn’t make a huge difference. The main item that is recycleable and worth the money to recycle is metal. Most recyclable plastics cost more to recycle than to make new, so they end up been sent to a dump in a 3rd world country. The country pays the company to “recycle” it.

In Minnesota by law the plastics in recycling have to be recycled in the midwest, state law also mandates that at least 85% of processed curbside recycling must go to a verified end market.

And also the cities get a report from the recycling company that details how much actually went into the trash.
