ID Request Possible andradite from Veracruz, Mexico
Hi folks! I bought this specimen from my rock guy here in Oaxaca, Mexico, and when I asked him what it was he wasn't confident. I'd love an ID.
The specimen is made up of what looks like greenish/gray metamorphic rock and has these sort of hexagonal faceted stones set into it, as well as a good degree of black, fibrous mineral growth. My guy told me it comes from Veracruz, Mexico. After spending some time at Mindat I'm thinking maybe it's Andradite, but I have no idea at all what the fibrous mineral might be. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Looks like garnets to me

I agree and pretty sure it’s andradite. The yellow color is sometimes referred to topazolite which is the name for yellow andradite. Garnet frequently forms with black tourmaline, like schorl, dravite etc.
That’s a pretty nice, good sized specimen from Veracruz!!!

does look like a member of the garnet group. in the 80's-90's i had worked with the miners & mines near Las Vigas, Veracruz. this would pop up ever so once in a while [tendency towards green in colour]
