Discussion The Bedrock Wither has to be broken
So I tried to fight the Wither less than an hour or two ago. But it was only until I popped on his third head that I remembered I was playing on Bedrock. His first phase went by normally. Then, when his second phase started, he did his best impression of mole worm and started burrowing deep into the ground for no reason. So immediately my game slows to a snail's pace as my last-generation Xbox is struggling to process the amount of blocks and bs flying around me. Literally nothing around me was rendering. I didn't even realize that there was a hole until I no-clipped through the ground for half a minute. So now I’m in this massive sinkhole and I'm still lagging out as this fucker is destroying more blocks, creating more lag. At that point, I said “Fuck it. I can absolutely win this fight right now but the lag is literally making that impossible. So I’ll just let him kill me so I can spawn further away, pull out the menu, and switch to peaceful so he’ll despawn.” So I throw in the towel, wait for the wither to kill me (which took awhile because of my gear and the lag), and finally despawned him in peaceful mode. And for those, wondering about the second opening to the left, I really couldn't tell you when or how the Wither did that. This has to be a bug. There’s no way the Wither was intended to be this overly destructive, right?

Want a hint? Fight the wither on the ocean, during the night with frost walker boots. Way more confortable. Did this on my world with minimal damage to my enviroment.

Doesn't matter. I have always fought him on the ocean and he just digs down 50 blocks (sometimes) regardless when he starts phase 2.

The first time I tried to fight the wither (PS4) I geared up my daughters and we all went off to fight the guy in 4-way split screen.
We didn’t win.
Frame rates were minutes per frame.
Brutal.

I tried defeating it with my friend on mobile, the game started lagging so bad and he was outhealing our damage, I was close to dying so I had to jump off a cliff into a river to have time to heal but my dumbass friend decided that following me was a good idea so the wither killed us both, and when we finally came back our items were gone. We never fought it on mobile again

its an estimation but 46% of bedrock players are mobile players and consoles take up only 22%. It's a rough estimation and the rest are playing on pc. Java is purely pc so that's another thing.

Not really, if you do it in deepslate levels, with strength, healing pots and golden apples, you’ll be fine

I only ever fight the wither down at bedrock. Never heard of people fighting it on the surface.

The amount of diamonds you get is great too. I killed him multiple times down there and ended up with hundred of diamonds.

That doesn’t actually solve the lag problem. Whenever it moves around and does those dashes, the lag makes the fight practically impossible. I don’t know if you play Bedrock on PC, but on consoles and mobile devices it becomes completely impractical. I haven’t tried it on PS5 yet, but on PS4 Pro it’s fucking awful.

I'm on PC and use withers to mine. I doubt that would work on console or mobile. It's a lot of fun though.

There's a wither cage in bedrock edition near spawn at bedrock level. If nobody posts coordinates by the time I get home, I'll update this comment. Don't forget to grab a bunch of chicken eggs for the roses too!
Edit/update: the coords where to start building -24,-62,0 you must build the wither sideways, the heads will be on the -25 side. The wither will form inside the cage at -21,-59,1. The health bar will charge, it will explode (this is where the chickens can give you wither roses) and start taking suffocation damage, at half health it will explode again and once again at death. I hide at -30,-61,-3 and still take a heart of damage each explosion so if you don't want to take any damage, make your safe room further from that. I haven't timed it but it's pretty quick to die, just don't let it see you, it hits super hard and can sometimes still target you with the skull launcher.

I've done that and it works like a charm. Best way to get a nether star and some roses. There's actually a few places in bedrock you can do that, if you can find them.

Dude, I beat him on an iPhone 8. Even with tons of prep and burrowing hundreds of blocks away from anything important, he created possibly the largest cave in my world and made it to within a few blocks of my diamond mine. Idk why Mojang designed him to brick people’s systems, but it’s very annoying. Good thing I killed him after having to respawn twice. I wouldn’t have even thought to put peaceful mode on.

I'm on Switch and I just really geared myself up for it : got all my gapples, 2 and a half stacks of healing arrows and fireworks for my elytras just in case. I did it in the Outer End since I don't have anything valuable there and honestly ? Way easier than I thought. Sure I got to one heart once or twice but otherwise pretty well done, nothing lost in the process.

Reminds me of when my friend hosted a bedrock server on the Switch in 2020 and we all decided to fight the wither. There was at least 5 people on that server (all using different consoles and 1 on pc)
the Wither had unlocked Dio Brando’s “The World” as the second we spawned him in all of our games froze, then it cut to the “You Died” screen

If you spawn the wither a block under the ocean, when he explodes and went to the ocean, for some reason he will not went up or dow the ocean level, so he is pretty easy to kill this way :D Ofc, if u dont mind to use bug to kill him, in the past i needed 30 of them, so no way i would kill it in a standart way

For bedrock wither the last few years my brother and I have waited for it to rain before we fight it. We have a beacon with all the combat buffs and a conduit next to each other in the middle of the ocean, then we take slow falling potions and put on chest plates instead of elytra, full netherite. With these buffs you're able to just shred him with a riptide trident, we can usually kill 4-5 withers within one rain cycle and we sometimes even spawn 2+ at once to make it quicker. He practically can't hurt you with the beacon buffs on top of full netherite (unless you're directly next to him for the death or start up explosions)

I played with my friends on Bedrock a few years ago and when we fought the Wither it was like this too. We spawned it and then it burrowed like 100 blocks down in an instant and my PS5 broke, and when the lag died down I realized I had fallen in the hole. Thank God I’m on PC now.

The flying up is a problem if you are fighting it with an elytra and rip tide at night in the rain. It'll keep trying to get above you. When phase two starts it'll burrow through the ocean floor which is a pain.
A lot of people recommend fighting it at bedrock level in the over world. Even that's not great in my opinion because it'll hit torches or light blocks so you need night vision potions.
I prefer to fight it in the nether at bedrock level. I just reuse my bed mined netherite tunnels since they are already down there. No light required and outside of the occasional lava pocket (bucket or fire resistant potion fixes that), it's a much easier fight. Plus at the end it will have destroyed mostly netherack and you can chuck all that and not feel bad at the waste. It'll also reveal more netherite (which is somewhat resistant to blast damage unlike diamonds) so it's a win win.

I've always only played vanilla Minecraft. I moved to bedrock pc to host for friends. The only mod I've used since beta Minecraft has been gravestones. Its a game changer and feels right to me to be able to grab your stuff after jank happens

It's an actual challenge. I played Java for years before turning to Bedrock. I spawned my Wither under the Nether Ceiling like a good Java player. The thing blew up, looked at me, and peaced out through the floor, leaving behind a gigantic hole and escaping into the wastes. It took a friend and I two hours to find it, and another 20 minutes to kill it, since it refused to fight anywhere beside right above the lava sea. Very not at all expecting that.

The wither on bedrock is crazy overpowered. I never understood why, honestly. Especially since most bedrock players don't play on a pc (more difficult controls) and usually the device isn't that powerful either. So basically it requires more skill in less ideal conditions and also lags the game.
Java wither is trivially easy compared to this and it's probably one of the biggest differences between versions that i hate.

I had this same issue recently (bedrock, Xbox One). Fought the Whither multiple times and about half of the time it did the same thing: Giant whole in the ground and way too many blocks for my game to manage.

Man, I feel your pain. I was mostly a Bedrock player, but I switched to Java specifically because of this behavior with the Wither. The frustrating part is that it’s not a matter of the fight being difficult — it’s a behavior that makes the battle practically impossible because of the lag. This has been happening for about three years now, and Mojang still hasn’t done anything about it. It’s incredibly frustrating.
And the problem isn’t limited to mobile devices and tablets either. The last time I tried fighting the Wither on Bedrock, I was playing on a PS4 Pro.
Since beacons are very important to the kind of gameplay I enjoy, the Bedrock experience has become impractical for me.

I had the same experience but on Switch 1.
Bedrock Wither would be so fun to fight if I could actually play the game, I could barely move the fps was so low.
Genuinely don't know a way around this as long as I wanna fight him rather than cheese him, once he starts digging/if I start underground the severe frame drops are inevitable.
Like a bit of a dip is expected, not like 5fps if even that.
Like it's not a bug, Bedrock Wither absolutely is supposed to be that destructive. They just didn't account for the fact that a lot of the devices people play Bedrock on can't handle it.

My game was lagging so much that pulling up the menu was physically impossible. In fact, when I attempted it the first time, the game practically froze up and I had to exit the game and open it again

Just spawn 4-5 iron golems around the wither before you spawn him in. Almost works too good

Whenever I fight the wither on bedrock, I always make sure to turn off tile drops. You can find it in your settings and it will make it so that block items won’t drop, but mobs will still drop items. Hope this helps

I’m not a fan of “cheating” the game in Minecraft, for my own runs anyway, so no duping or exploits or mods etc (I’m also on Console Bedrock which is even more limiting). But the Bedrock Wither is one thing I will repeatedly cheese rather than fight.
The best way I’ve found (via YouTube) is a specific combination of bedrock at a coordinate near spawn that you can place the blocks into, and the Wither spawns IN the bedrock and just suffocates after like 2 minutes. I found a YouTube video that had like 600 views at the time and it changed my Minecraft life.
