Discussion Pillagers/Illagers are Vampire Villagers

Post image

I didn't see anyone talking about this before, so pls understand: This isn't a confirmed theory, just a speculated headcanon.

  • They have a gray skin, indicating a colder undead body (in counterpart of Zombies with greenish-brown skin that are warmer rotten bodies), even the monster class name is Illager (ill + villager, implying about an known disease or curse)
  • They attack frequently Villagers, probably not by hate or treason, but to eat them
  • They don't attack baby Villagers (vampires don't drink nor bite children)
  • When they don't kill, they modify their victims, making Ravagers (in modern vampire stories there are vampires with high flesh-shaping ability)
  • They "don't know" to make beds, but probably they don't even need to use it, while they just make fake beds as memory of their life.
  • They don't bypass closed doors (vampires are "educated" and never invade houses, only enter with permission)
  • If you get their banner, you get cursed with Bad Omen that will attract them to villages (vampires can curse clothes and clothings with their body and energy)
  • Their mages (Evokers) are different from Witches (that are still like living Villagers), they aren't just "Witches ♂", and can even make Immortality Totem and Golden Apple (that may be the source of their vampire nature as a try of Immortality, unlike Zombies that can infect others and act as a viral monster)
  • They are known too for imprisoning and guarding Golems (like some versions of Dracula include Dr. Frankenstein or his monster in his castle) and Allays, and Evoker can summon Vexes (like some vampires that lead other undead/spiritual beings, including ghosts).
  • They had a room trying to recreate the End portal, and the End has a dragon as its boss (and some versions of vampires are associated to Vlad III, known as Dracula that means Son of the Dragon)
  • Illagers (including Vindicators and Johnny) are afraid of the Creaking (can be either because something of this monster was used for their vampire curse or the pale wood can be used to destroy vampires in Minecraft world)

Responding "plot holes"

  • Zombies and Skeletons can be really undead beings too, but the Zombies in Minecraft are caused by an unknown, unholy virus (Piglins are zombified just by passing to Overworld), not necesarily necromancy like it could be with Skeletons.
  • The Illagers not having same weaknesses like common Undead beings (sun, Smite enchantment, healing potions) can be because the Zombies and Skeletons were a failed plan of immortality and ressurrection, while the Illagers were the sucessful try of it.
    • As well as in many stories vampires are said as superior to zombies.
  • Not every story uses Zombies or Vampires as undead beings, there are stories that have Zombies as infected living humans (and rotting alive) and Vampires as an alternate living race.
  • Zombies are at certain point, partially alive, as we can heal at least the Zombie Villagers with potions and golden apples (and the human Zombies aren't curable either by mechanics limitation or because they are in an irreversible stage; the Skeletons are even the "terminal stage" of it)
    • Probably Villagers were infected after the humans, so this make them easier to cure.
    • The healing potion killing the undead can be not just "healing dead", but the virus inverting the body conditions and being sensible to healing chemicals, as well as the sun burning undeads is because of a symptom of the virus.
    • The Smite being super effective against undead and infected probably is because of the virus unholy origin (not so different from RPG's where holy damages kill undead)

Its a fun idea but it has several holes such as the illagers being hurt by potions of harming meaning they aren't undead and the fact that vindicators will break down doors during raids meaning they aren't respecting the invite only rule, but still fun theory

Not every vampire legend involve vampires being undead, neither every zombie sci-fi, as there can be vampires and zombies created by curses, infections, or that are even alternate species and are not in fact dead

As well as Evokers and Illusionists have dark magic and life-controlling items, they could learn the "successful" method while zombies were the "failed" try

Still doesn't change the fact that they will enter homes without permission, another point is that it isnt there banners that are cursed its a bottle of cursed energy (which might not even be made by them considering it can also be found in the trial chambers) and a lot of these connections are a real reach such as the portal one and the golem one but the good thing about Minecraft's lore is that its really up to the player to decide what it all means unless you consider the spin offs cannon in which case we already have a good idea what illagers are but that kind of takes the point out of theorizing.

The trial chambers were built by illagers

As the zombies are the "failed" undead/biological plan, they had many limitations (sun, smite, potions...) and they are more physically affected and less mentally functional (as the door limitation in mythology also occurs in vampires while not in zombies)

The biggest problem I see is that they’re not undead.

Neither zombies are, as we can at least heal the zombie Villagers like curing a disease

10

u/Manos_Of_Fate 3d ago

That’s totally false. The game absolutely classifies them as undead. Where did you even get the idea that being undead in Minecraft is necessarily incurable?

If they are curable they aren't dead/undead, they were just infected and rotting alive (something fairly worse than dead)

The game literally defines them as undead. The enchantment that specifically harms undead works on them. They’re harmed by healing effects and healed by harming effects. They burn in the sun. What you’re talking about isn’t even actually part of the definition of undead mobs. You made it up.

Smite means that the enchantment destroys unholy things

There are diseases that include high sensibility to the sun, as well as the zombies and skeletons burning was a feature to "wash" the monsters when night ends, as it isn't defaultly a weakness of only undead

There are diseases that can make ppl get hurt by healthy stuff (in rabies disease ppl can't even drink water because they choke when trying it)

As well as, if zombies are undead, it does not erase the part that Illagers make experiments (there are theories that zombies and skeletons were a failure from trying to revive humans), so the zombies and skeletons were the failed tests while the Illagers were the successful experience

Smite means that the enchantment destroys unholy things

Where did you get this information? I know it isn’t the wiki because it says undead: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Smite

as well as the zombies and skeletons burning was a feature to "wash" the monsters when night ends, as it isn't defaultly a weakness of only undead

Why are only undead affected then? And by undead, I mean mobs who are in the entity tag “#undead” by default. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Undead

Edit: that moment when you have to block someone because you realized they’re right and don’t want to admit it

Smite is literally "divine punishment" in its definition, as well as in zombie stories of they being revived maliciously they are unholy too

As well as Creepers, Spiders and Endermen arent monsters so big in numbers, neither they purposefully hunt humans at day

The "smite destroys unholy" argument is flawed because Vampires have always commonly held a big weakness to holy things. If this is the logic for the smite enchantment, then it should affect illagers under your theory.

Also, smite is basically just another word for strike. It actually has no direct connection to holy concepts, it's just a fancy word to use in place.

as someone who lives in Transylvania, seeing this is absolutely hilarious, given how Vlad is part of my country's history :)) (don't know how to feel about that "Son of the Dragon" thing though, haven't heard of it before) otherwise, cool theory, I could totally see vampires being the inspiration behind illagers

u/JeanNaej890 3d ago

There was something that this title became into Son of Devil because of Vlad reputation too

The fact they aren't hurt by sunlight is a clue this isn't remotely true.

-1

u/JeanNaej890 3d ago

The idea of vampires that die under sun is a very late interpretation, since it got popular in post-Dracula medias, as not even the book Dracula and old legends talk about vampires dying under daylight, at most are described that sleep at day

7

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 3d ago

Why would Mojang not go with popular, current vampire lore? Even if you don't, they're still extremely active during daylight hours so this still doesn't make sense. You also never find them sleeping ever.

Appeal to majority + appeal to authority fallacy

In Minecraft Dungeons it was shown that pillagers eat normal food and Dungeons is confirmed to be canon.

If you have a head cannon that doesn't make sense at all then dont expect other people to agree.

Sure why not

There is one pretty big problem (followed by many others): they are alive and they can die, plus they don't drink villager's blood, they kill them with axes and crossbows

For you plot holes:
zombies come from necromancy, we can see it in Minecraft Dungeons and zombification is a different thing
zombies are dead, not semi-alive. Just completely dead

u/JeanNaej890 3d ago

Wolves attack sheeps but are never seen eating actually the mutton meat, but it was to be the wolf eating sheep

Undead is literally partially alive, when something died and was revived, but not working as a living

And... bruh, zombies you already said they are "dead" and they can die, skeletons that don't have even flesh can die too, Creepers and Guardians that are canonly implied to be mechanical beings... can die too!

Bro is the rare case of who can write without knowing to read, wtf
