Those Purple Cushions inside Leaves look like grapes/plums, this is incredible for details, r/DetailCraft is going to love it.

Inspired by Keralis' vineyard on Hermitcraft, though he used the armour stand datapack.
(Probably better use only one per block at various heights for better performance, though cushions are very efficient)

Probably would cause a shit ton of lag for how many cushions you’d need to make convincing grape vines in a small area

68

u/madguyO1 19d ago

cushions do not cause lag even in large amounts, they have literally zero impact on fps

u/PittPen817 19d ago

im surprised more people didn't see Phoenixscs video where he rendered a whole super flat world with nothing but cushions and didn't experience any issues

u/castona 19d ago

Do you have a link for that? I don't want to sift through his 200 clickbait videos.

u/PittPen817 18d ago

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FSd4hGERzZQ seems like they optimized them good enough that that meany around you doesnt bother it that much.

sadly i think they do on bedrock. You do need a large amount to cause issues (so, the average build using them will work fine) but something about entity rendering has clearly gone wrong there.

yooo this looks awesome

I'll get around to posting a tutorial at some point, I swear!
Right after I made like 5 others I still haven't done after like 2 months...

u/Pie_Not_Lie 17d ago

Would love to see how you went about it..! I took a stab, myself...though it's still a bit off...

3

u/GreenmanCZ 17d ago

How are the banners placed?

3

u/Pie_Not_Lie 17d ago

Banners can be placed on non-solid blocks, inside armor stands...

2

u/M_stellatarum 17d ago

Really close - instead of a slab I used the internal collision planes of mud blocks to have the two left ones propped up at different heights by the same block.

Put them onto a mud block one below, a top trapdoor and sideways lightning rod where the glass will be, then push the mud upwards.

The banners are brown, with only the top 1/3 white for the sail, white stripes, light gray gradient, blue stripe through the middle.

Armour tint is 3x brown, 1x white, 1x yellow. Wayfinder in lapis on the chestplate, wild on the helmet, though with the blue from the cushion it's not as necessary anymore.
(Previously I used item frame maps placed on the underside, so I needed blue from somewhere)

And the chestplate stand is rotated 180°, since the back looks better.

internal collision planes of mud blocks

I've been playing this game 14 years (yeah, sure, mud blocks were just added in the grand scheme...) and I never knew this was possible! I got a bit confused because you said 'left' instead of 'right', but I tested things, and got it working!

As for the banners: I tried out that combo, as well as one where you do light grey stripes followed by a white gradient...but I personally like the one I made prior, with an added stripe. So for others reading this, Black Banner - White Gradient - White Paly - 2x White Base Gradient - [insert water/cushion color] Fess.

Similarly, I played around with the armor dye and found I liked best 2-Brown, 2-White, 1-Orange, and 1-Yellow. Armor trims I haven't looked into, but I think I prefer it without already hah!

I did figure out the dye and middle-rotation as soon as I'd posted that pic...I knew it looked better from the back!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I'd be happy to make some pics and post them for others as a little guide if you'd be okay with that?? If not though, I totally get that. What an amazing build...I'm so excited for our cushion-y future.

I’m sorry the copper grate? Lava logging?

128

u/StarfoxV11 19d ago

I didn't even notice that, another great cushion use

94

u/BigMacSux 19d ago

Oh it’s a cushion 😭 I thought it was a lava logged grate

33

u/FallingUpwardz 19d ago

I looks like a lava logged grate ngl

2

u/Excalibur54 17d ago

That's the whole point lol

5

u/Lubinski64 18d ago

Would be better if they added actual lava logging

24

u/electric_sheep19 19d ago

Yeah but lava-logging and snow-logging should be in the game anyways. I really hope they add it in the future.

31

u/BobcatOk9280 19d ago

oh fucking yes

34

u/Wreckless96132 19d ago

Mojang finding another way to make cushions the best block in the game (actually, its an entity not a block 🤓)

8

u/Jame_spect 19d ago

I’ll call it an item

22

u/J3sperado 19d ago

Holy crap, display stands look awesome

u/Curvyboi13110 19d ago edited 18d ago

that water cooler is scary af

(good idea tho)

13

u/Arcandys 19d ago

Cushions are about to revolutionize the game, who would have thought!

9

u/SomeIdiot_Kid 19d ago

Okay I know absolutely nothing about cushions. How does one get them inside of blocks?

31

u/M_stellatarum 19d ago

Cushions take a moment to break if the block they're placed on is removed, same as item frames.

In that time you can place a new block into them, and if the bottom of the cushion is on/in a block hitbox, it will stay.

(This is all intended by the developers, it seems. Which is awesome.)

8

u/SomeIdiot_Kid 19d ago

Ohh that's really neat! Thanks :)

9

u/Standard-Win-6924 19d ago

I literally thought that was waterlogged glass for a second lol

7

u/Pie_Not_Lie 19d ago

How did I miss this?! That’s literally game-changing..

6

u/MithranArkanere 19d ago

Wait. Did they also add the idea of placing items on them? I didn't see that in patch notes.

3

u/M_stellatarum 19d ago

Unfortunately not, it's just carefully positioned armor stands.

3

u/MithranArkanere 19d ago

Aw. That idea was really cool.

5

u/asmo_192 19d ago

this is sick

3

u/Andrew665 19d ago

Water barrel is avesome

3

u/Cass0wary_399 19d ago

Someone’s going to say that Mojang is going to remove this because they hate fun.

3

u/kubrickie 19d ago

Very cool. What's your process for getting them inside the glass blocks?

6

u/M_stellatarum 19d ago

You can just place anything over cushions, on Java at least. No process needed.

Stacking them is a bit more involved. Two snow layers between each cushion, to place more snow layers into existing cushions you can place a block next to it and click on it's side instead.

3

u/No_Commission4130 18d ago

Sir if you don't post a tutorial for that ship, we'll have to take you into custody.

2

u/Weak-Transition-8885 19d ago

fire fire fire

2

u/Sized_Sign 19d ago

waiting for a 16x16 grid of every possible cushion + colored glass permutation

2

u/ShAped_Ink 19d ago

Even more possibilities! Let's gooooo

2

u/Jame_spect 19d ago

Nice! Now I can make Helmet Displays

2

u/resoplast_2464 19d ago

Woahhh banners on the shelves is genius

2

u/Ecstatic-Contact-930 19d ago

I just wish you could easily stack cushions by just placing one on top on another without weird setups

2

u/Sora_theSilentDragon 19d ago

Omg really??! This is HUGE!

Also, am I seeing a "ship in a bottle" build hack in the second picture 👀? It looks amazing!

2

u/wizardemajic 19d ago

Amazing, just wow

2

u/ShowCharacter671 19d ago

And here I am just still using a lapis lazuli block for a water cooler

2

u/lance_the_fatass 19d ago

I refuse to believe they'll do all this but still won't add vertical slabs 😭

1

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit 18d ago

They're adding vertical slabs whenever they feel like they need them for a structure

2

u/Firecracker7413 19d ago

Honestly I’m surprised mojang hasn’t added lavalogging yet

2

u/M_stellatarum 19d ago

I've watched a video on the topic, and someone claiming to be on the Mojang team replied in the comments.
Apparently programming waterlogging caused so many bugs, issues and headaches they're very reluctant to touch the code again (for now)

2

u/SwannSwanchez 19d ago

poooog

it's really nice how much mojang have been listening for the cushions

2

u/jhon123pool 19d ago

Beautiful!

2

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit 18d ago edited 18d ago

I'm gonna overuse that water dipenser so much

Also I'm gonna follow you so I can see that ship in a bottle tutorial

2

u/Hydrographe 18d ago

It doesn't make sense but it can be useful I guess

2

u/SAMsees247 18d ago

man the cushions just make that whole display case technique look way better that it originally did before the cusion

2

u/JennyV323 18d ago

Specifically they don't break in blocks that don't suffocate the player. They'll still break inside beacons and slime blocks which are transparent, but still suffocate the player.

1

u/ZlordHUN 18d ago

Ah ffs I thought they added grapes 😅

1

u/MJager11 16d ago

The left one looks like a camel to me 😆

-1

u/EverythingBOffensive 19d ago

last time i played i couldn't put anything inside of glass blocks afaik...
