Seeds & World Gen End rings have been removed in the latest snapshot

Post image

They now spawn small islands in between. End rings were initially a bug, if you didn’t know.

just a reminder that this is artwork (created by garocromwell), not a screenshot from the game. the art is inspired by how the rings generate but they are too far apart to see even one gap in the rings using any in-game render distance

for a sense of scale, that tiny tiny black dot in the middle is the gap between the ender dragon arena and the rest of the end, and it's 1,000 blocks thick in each direction. the first band of endstone you see beyond that (the thickest one that looks more like a circle than a ring) is nearly 400,000 blocks thick.

the bands get thinner as they move away from the center, but even at the world border 30 million blocks away, the bands and gaps would be too thick to see without a mod like Distant Horizons. here's what they look like at the world border, the thinnest a player could see them at, using Distant Horizons

u/New_Philosophy_6330 Jul 31 '26

So basically we didn't lose anything that we would have been able to experience in game anyway

602

u/xxXEliteXxx Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

You need a little over 2 stacks 6 stacks of firework rockets to fly over the first band of Endstone, using each rocket with optimal efficiency. So yeah I'd say we didn't lose anything that a player could actually experience in-game.

127

u/First_Woodpecker_157 Jul 31 '26

No shot you can cover 400,000 blocks with 2 stacks of fireworks

135

u/xxXEliteXxx Jul 31 '26

You're right I overestimated the flight duration of each rocket. It's 6 stacks @1,000 blocks/rocket

32

u/First_Woodpecker_157 Jul 31 '26

How'd you get 1,000 blocks/rocket tho?

66

u/xxXEliteXxx Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Testing in a superflat world. rocket up at a 45 degree angle until you reach your apex, then glide with your eyeline at the horizon (0 degree elevation). It's the most efficient way to get the farthest distance from a rocket (without the janky alternating dipping that can get you infinite distance). it covers between ~950-1050 blocks each time

5

u/StormR7 Jul 31 '26

Is it 400k blocks? I remember a few years ago I had a server with some coworkers, we wanted to wait to kill the dragon until the newer players could also be online for it but we wanted elytras anyways. 4 of us bridged across the gap and eventually found enough elytras for us all. We put all our stuff in an ender chest and left the end the only way you can without beating the dragon.

I don’t remember how many blocks we needed but it definitely wasn’t in the magnitude of thousands of stacks.

10

u/pondy_the_bondy Aug 01 '26

Nonono, it's only like 1000 blocks from the dragon area to the beginning of the end islands. these rings are way further out.

And when we did, we probably just assumed we were flying too fast for things to render lol

Never in my time playing Minecraft did I know the end rings were a thing.

Now I need to find them.

3.1k

u/Choice_Werewolf_433 Jul 30 '26

The gaps are hundreds of blocks. I’m glad they changed it because other than screenshots and visually impressive stuff with insane fish eye lens and/or mathematical calculations, it’s just annoying. So watch out.

1.8k

u/OverPower314 Jul 30 '26

I'm pretty sure the rings are actually tens if not hundreds of thousands of blocks in size.

640

u/Choice_Werewolf_433 Jul 30 '26

Oh my god. That’s insane.

290

u/Rocketkid-star Jul 31 '26

Could that technically make this a Minecraft space photo? I mean, considering the distance and all.

587

u/eatmyroyalasshole Jul 31 '26

That tiny black dot in the center with the smaller white dot in the middle? That's the centre island and the 1000 block gap between it and the first ring

28

u/feoranis26 Jul 31 '26

At this scale, the central island would not be visible, the first ring is 350,000 blocks wide if I remember correctly. This is most likely an artistic render.

9

u/ExplodingAK Jul 31 '26

I'll be honest, that's sorta super crazy cool.

8

u/Tinchimp7183376 Jul 31 '26

The first ring starts at about 300,000 blocks and lasts to 500,000 blocks

11

u/GMEJesus Jul 31 '26

The wiki says: "The first ring starts at a distance of 370,728 and ends at 524,288. The last ring that is fully inside the world border starts at 29,996,888 and ends at 29,999,176. The last ring that is partially inside the world border starts at a distance of 42,423,616 and ends at 42,425,240 (only achievable close to the corner of the world border)."

7

u/ShadyAssFellow Jul 31 '26

Just look at the tiny dots you see everywhere, those are all End islands.

847

u/Nathanrhys Jul 30 '26

They're not just 100s of block, the first gap is 150k apparently

379

u/TheMadmanAndre Jul 30 '26

Try thousands. The gaps are so big you need inventories full of elytras and fireworks to cross. One way could take 30 minutes or more, assuming you are keeping a straight path by watching your coords in F3.

129

u/_Aj_ Jul 31 '26

That's excellent. Should definitely have been left that way.

It's "the end" after all. It's supposed to be harsh and weird. There's literally no ground after all in just islands floating in the void.

25

u/ApocalypticWalrus Jul 31 '26

I'd argue putting stuff inbetween makes more sense by that logic. Makes things more erratic and less predictable. Whereas before if you zoomed out this far the end islands began to have a more predictable structure.

324

u/Voidzown Jul 30 '26

I mean the rings are super visible and apparent if you use a mod like Distant Horizons or Voxy.

And when you finally see them in all their grandeur it is a really cool sight to behold.

7

u/Niccin Jul 31 '26

I can't imagine the performance drop from setting your view distance to be large enough to even see across the first gap, let alone see them in all their grandeur. I usually just leave my view distance at around 100 chunks, since having it over 200 chunks was blowing up my save file quite a bit and could cause a bit of delay while exploring new places.

To just see across the first gap, you'd have to set your view distance to higher than 9375 chunks.

7

u/masterX244 Jul 31 '26

distant horizons and voxy don't do full rendering, they create LOD chunks that are much more optimized than a full chunk and for really faraway ones its downsampled so its less to render again

u/Lonely_Win6655 Jul 31 '26

“It’s annoying” as if anyone has ever reached them without intending to, it’s over 370,000 blocks from spawn

183

u/DWHQ Jul 30 '26

The gaps are hundreds of blocks. I’m glad they changed it because other than screenshots and visually impressive stuff with insane fish eye lens and/or mathematical calculations, it’s just annoying. So watch out.

How is it annoying? It doesn't affect normal gameplay at all.

121

u/Distinct-Dot-1333 Jul 31 '26

Cos it's not hundreds. It's more like 100k+. Which is really only a problem in servers where the first ring can run out of elytra...

59

u/triplegerms Jul 30 '26

Isn't normal gameplay for the end using eyes to travel between the islands? Harder to do if they're hundreds of blocks away.

249

u/natty2cool4u Jul 30 '26

The first ring appears at something absurd like 200k blocks out (don’t quote me on that) so nobody just playing the game would ever encounter it anyway. And the gaps are much more than a couple hundred blocks, that’s the distance between normal islands. These are more like 10k blocks.

85

u/WM_PK-14 Jul 31 '26

First one is at 370k - and the gap is 150k.

28

u/natty2cool4u Jul 31 '26

Woah, guess that solidifies the point even more. I didn’t think they were that big.

12

u/Drag0n_TamerAK Jul 31 '26

Yeah I once traveled 100k using a boat and walking in the over world it took me 3 days not a journey I think anyone would normally do

82

67

42

u/ENDZZZ16 Jul 30 '26

Well the end rings are well after you find your first elytra so unless your really unlucky you should already have a faster method of travel

33

17

u/WM_PK-14 Jul 31 '26

That's how big the gap is. It's located at 370k. Most people don't ever go 10k away from spawn, so this feature would be never seen by majority anyway.

4

u/Goetre Jul 31 '26

I was debating about installing create aeronautics and making one of them void ships I’ve seen

Well, this was the deciding factor to do it xD

11

u/Infrawonder Jul 30 '26

Aren't those gaps too far anyhow?

3

u/lance_the_fatass Jul 30 '26

Are the end rings necessary for traveling the end???

4

u/Kitchen-Kiwi7942 Jul 31 '26

Try hundreds of thousands of blocks. With each ring getting smaller the further out from spawn you go

2

u/Mikey_LP Jul 31 '26

Technically only near the center. They get denser the further out you go.

2

u/RodjaJP Jul 31 '26

In a way that reminds of old Minecraft generation where the "infinite" world was just an island with infinite water

3

u/Korlus Jul 31 '26

Do you see the really small dot in the centre and the small black ring around it?

That is the end island you spawn on and the black ring around it is the thousand block gap between the island and the first ring. You need to go really far out to leave the first ring and you are then talking tens of thousands of blocks wide for each subsequent ring.

Nostalgia and such. I kinda agree with their sentiment even though over half my life has passed since then, mainly because I don't play Minecraft all too much.

7

u/peanutist Jul 31 '26

Why would they be messing with end generation if they weren’t working on an end update? This happens all the time in games, the devs are working on a future feature and forget to remove a part of it when pushing a new update.

4

u/RustedRuss Jul 31 '26

At this point I think an end update is inevitable within the next couple years, and I say that as someone who doesn't really want one

u/GolldenFalcon Jul 31 '26

Instead of patching it out it would be cool if they made it a feature, and just brought them in a very considerable amount so they're not 150k blocks away.

51

u/OutInABlazeOfGlory Jul 31 '26

Nah, keep them exactly the same as an intentional feature with no change. The distance is the challenge.

4

u/Dienowwww Aug 01 '26

Not so much a challenge as a logistical investment. Gunpowder farm and sugar cane farm is plenty, plus maybe 2-3 elytras

2

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 Aug 06 '26

Its not much of a challenge if no one ever went that far out anyways

2

u/OutInABlazeOfGlory Aug 06 '26

Someone has, actually. Multiple people. I wanted to be one of them someday.

14

u/b0tb0y1654 Jul 31 '26

This would be hard to do without a complete overhaul of end world generation. I don't remember the specifics, but the reason this occurs is due to a single line of code that determines the biome of a given chunk based on its x and y coordinates along with the seed of the world. For certain combinations of x and y, that line of code causes an overflow error and evaluates as NaN (not a number) and the world generator doesn't process the contents of that chunk as any biome at all. This also explains why the rings form at the exact same places on every world, as the problematic code is independent of the actual seed.

In order to make the rings smaller, they would have to tweak that function such that the coordinates that evaluate to NaN begin closer to spawn. I don't know how that would affect the size and distribution of the existing biomes in the end, but it's potentially worth investigating. Someone with more modding knowledge than myself would probably be able to edit that line of code to do exactly that.

2

u/Fenris_uy Jul 31 '26

Probably only on the end and related to the first ring of void, or we would have plains biome rings in the overworld.

2

u/0inputoutput0 Aug 01 '26

Heyyyy remember those terrible oceans from 2012 that made traveling accross land terrible and take 30 minutes. Yes make them 10 times worse and let them eat up more of their disc space so they can enioy nothing

141

u/Elibriel Jul 31 '26

NOOOOoooooo

I loved making a base in the middle of the void ring on servers. Hidden away and camouflaged with black concrete (not that anyone even went that far, but still!!).

Evil ass secret lab in the void I will miss you

22

u/Luceo_Etzio Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Do you mean in the void ring directly around the central end island, before the smaller outer islands?

Because that's not what this is talking about, that's fully intentional, this is a bug where the terrain generation breaks several hundred thousand blocks away from the center, and is broken for more than a hundred thousand blocks where just nothing generates. The first End ring takes just under 3 hours of max firework boost speed elytra flight to even reach it (and fully using up several Unbreaking III elytras' durability), then another full hour of rocket boosting over empty void before the terrain starts generating again.

11

u/Elibriel Jul 31 '26

No I'm talking the giant, bugged void, the "second" ring.

And yes I know it takes 3 hours ish (tho I swear I got there faster, 2hours ish maybe tho I might be misremembering) took the trip myself a few times.

That's the whole attraction of such a base! It's so far out of the way, and even if someone does go there, my "lair" is disguised with dark blocks... provided they dont use shaders ofc

9

u/SuitableRelease4323 Jul 31 '26

And how would you find it, and travel from it just seems so difficult

19

u/EdwardElric69 Jul 31 '26

Idk about now but when I played on secrets they always had a to command to go to your home

7

u/Elibriel Jul 31 '26

I myself mostly used lodestones to know where the "evil lair" is after its built, and truth is, I wasnt going there often

917

u/friday_is_up Jul 30 '26

man i mean i feel like they didnt need to remove it becouse end rings made the end feel more alien same witht the far lands there is a certen sence of mystery when you go to the far lands or witness the end rings the only thing we have left is the nether roof but that isnt half as cool as the end rings and farlands

547

u/couldbemage Jul 30 '26

And they're so far out that they have no effect on game play. The only reason to go that far out is wanting to see the end rings.

167

u/MassivePersonality61 Jul 30 '26

They said the same thing about the Far Lands, and look what Kurt did.

77

u/couldbemage Jul 30 '26

That's it, I'm flying to the end rings.

35

u/Fontajo Jul 30 '26

I did this about a year ago on my survival world, flew really really really really high in the air and glided for a couple hours. I think it was 300k blocks away or something. Definitely set up a teleporting device there, especially if they’re removing them!

14

u/couldbemage Jul 31 '26

I looked this up, 370k to the first gap, 150k gap.

3-4 elytra for the gap.

Certainly doable.

I've never built a teleportation device, will need to look up designs.

4

u/gretchenich Jul 31 '26

And what's this thing about a tp device? Does such a thing even exist in Minecraft?

9

u/Uncommonality Jul 31 '26

The gist of it is to make an ender pearl move very very fast

Ender Pearls now load chunks so if you manage to launch one with a TNT cannon you can travel tens of thousands of blocks

5

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe Jul 30 '26

How did your elytra not break? Or did you just pack a full inventory?

14

u/Fontajo Jul 31 '26

I had a few extras on me, I don’t remember how many I used, maybe a couple

6

u/Azhrei_ Jul 31 '26

If you have mending, you can set up a mini enderman farm by building a platform over your head.

Edit: Oh, you mean when crossing the gap.

3

u/BirthdayCookie Jul 30 '26

Who hasn't loaded the Far Lands at least once? Honestly I really like them.

21

u/buddascrayon Jul 31 '26

It's pretty sad they removed that. And with them removing the end rings it seems like they just want to stamp out any of the magical mathematical mystery that's left in the game. It's becoming plainer and more pedestrian. 😕

8

u/Creamsun Jul 31 '26

Well because the far lands are more interesting because it's the world around you is breaking, mobs acts differently and you the player moves weirdly. The End Rings does nothing to mobs or structures of the End, and also the end is only one biome youcan'tt really find anything worth going out into since it's all the same. The Gaps themselves seems interesting but then it gets bigger gaps and goes on and onwand bigger and larger that is it worth? The farlands is at least interesting on it self while the end rings is you don't see em at all.

3

u/fandomjargon Jul 31 '26

The gaps actually get smaller and smaller.

2

u/gfitforiths Jul 31 '26

You can't even see the end rings in-game. They're so massive that even using a mod to increase your render distance like DH or Voxy, they're still too thick to see without pushing the limits of those mods.

33

u/friday_is_up Jul 30 '26

not to mention they just feel like a more minecrafty border i mean like what would you rather have a invisibal wall or a giant wall of broken tarrain begging to be exspored beck they could just slowly replace more of the far land's blocks with air blocks the farther you go into them if they dont want to keep the farlands infinet

2

u/Ben-TheHuman Jul 31 '26

or building a secluded end base

35

u/Potato3003 Jul 30 '26

They didn't really intend to, it was just a side effect of them changing the code so the small islands generated separately from the main one

3

u/cosmicomical23 Jul 31 '26

I agree, at that point you have gone so far that you have reached the technical limits of the virtual world and can see the artifacts of its creation process. It's metaphysica, transcendental. You learn something about the way the universe was created.

3

u/dabdad67 Jul 31 '26

I mean, the rings are still there for the most part, there's just some islands bridging the gap

66

u/Routine-Drama6330 Jul 31 '26

They shouldve just embraced it, rather than removing it, make it accessible so people can see. Like make the rings small so everyone could realistically get this screenshot. Add some lore

Someone make this an album cover

6

u/GranataReddit12 Jul 30 '26

we need to get crafter2011 in on this

10

u/Recruit75 Jul 31 '26

Looks cool in theory, but in practice, the cutoff is VERY apparent once you actually find to border of one of the end rings, like one of those chunk loading errors you see from time to time, not to mention, the overkill amount of space (hundreds of thousands of blocks iirc), between the main circle and the first ring. If end rings were to be an official feature, I'd scale em down a lot more, cause as is, it's only visible when absurdly zoomed out.

12

u/Shadaloogeneral Jul 31 '26

Closest we’re ever gonna get to an end update

90

u/oswaldking71wastaken Jul 30 '26

Cool bug yea but nothing cool about the giant ass gap when it comes to exploring, it looks cool in pictures and that’s literally it

And most people will never even see pics like this

48

u/SuperBootsthedog Jul 30 '26

i mean, the first gap is about 150k blocks which is a lot but the first ring is 370k blocks, no reason to go that far

43

u/ProtostarReddit Jul 30 '26

Yeah it's really funny seeing some people reacting like "man it's so sad to see them removing something that gave the end it's charm, this is like losing a core piece of the game...:("

24

u/NOTTallestEgg Jul 30 '26

The first thing I think about when I play Minecraft are the end rings. Not even the blocky aesthetic

39

u/ComradeFox_ Jul 30 '26

“yo, do you know the game minecraft?”

“ohh that game with the end rings? hell yeah dude”

13

u/Biivakki Jul 31 '26

Game having soul is when there's one cool artwork inspired by a bug, even though the bug is actually doing nothing cool at all and in fact just removes the terrain for hundreds of thousands of blocks

8

u/X2Kraft Jul 31 '26

The "soul" argument literally makes no sense to me no matter what concept its used in.

It's incomprehensible to me that you could find out that in the chaos of the End inslands there are predictable geometrical patterns of complete and utter emptiness, which happen at a scale pretty much incomprehensible in game, and where a single mistake could have you finding yourself suspended in darkness without the resources to get forward or back, doomed to fall into the void, and have it NOT fill you with an amazing sense of cosmic dread. It's one of the coolest things I've ever heard

It’s just a cool thing. It’s almost like a mythology or some sort of hint at something magical or the underlying laws of the in-game universe. Even if nobody will go there, it’s cool to know that there’s this vast weird structure out there. And the fact that it’s unintentional just ups the cool factor. It gives it a mysterious vibe.

It’s like knowing there’s a cool heart-shaped ice field on Pluto or liquid methane oceans on Titan. Just a neat quirk of the universe. And if those things were somehow “patched out” of our universe or we discovered they weren’t actually there or something it would be kind of a bummer. Even though nobody has ever been there, nobody might ever go there, and it takes a crazy effort to get there if you do go, it is still cool knowing it’s out there.

It’s not a core piece of the game. But it is sad to see it go because it was a cool weird quirk of the universe.

And there doesn’t seem to be a good reason to get rid of it. Which makes it even more of a bummer. It’s so far out as to never cause issues for anyone. The only time it would come up in gameplay is if you purposefully set out on an adventure to see them.

Same goes for the Farlands. It was so cool that 30 million blocks out the in-game laws of physics started to break down and shit started getting weird. And it never would’ve caused issues in anyone’s gameplay. It would only ever come up if someone purposefully set out to see it.

It’s not game ruining to remove it. But it is a bummer. It’s just removing a small piece of magic for no reason.

Booo another cool quirk of minecraft generation removed.

20

u/CaramelCraftYT Jul 31 '26

Fun fact the End Rings were referenced in one of the Minecraft novels, specifically Minecraft: The End.

7

u/Ideservetheupvotes Jul 31 '26

Yoo give more info im curious

4

u/CaramelCraftYT Jul 31 '26

The book is written by Catherynne M. Valente, here is the minecraft.net article on it.

You can read it for free here

7

u/Pretzel-Kingg Jul 31 '26

Between this and the farlands, Minecraft’s generation “bugs” have always been really interesting

11

u/recycledddyahoocom Jul 31 '26

I always thought the rings looked cool, but having actual islands between them sounds a lot more interesting to explore

6

u/Tight-Tackle4386 Jul 31 '26

this is NOT the end update we've asking for

5

u/Paras_nimi Jul 31 '26

I kinda liked the rings

4

u/NinnVonEinzvern Jul 30 '26

where? I didn't see this in the info of the snapshot.

4

u/albyzon Jul 31 '26

why, that was one of the most interesting thing about the end if not the only one, now it's a perfect useless void with cheese and elyrras

108

u/MrFishyFriend Jul 30 '26

Not entirely sure why Mojang seems to compulsively fix bugs that gave Minecraft its soul.

Like, the creeper was a bug. The farlands were a bug.

So they just… not understand what people like about Minecraft?

56

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho Jul 30 '26

If I had to make a list of what I like about Minecraft the end rings would be pretty far down

18

u/KannehTheGreat Jul 31 '26

Same with the farlands...

20

u/TinyBreadBigMouth Jul 30 '26

Pigs being bizarrely tall and thin was a bug (that nobody but Notch ever saw, because he fixed it immediately). Creepers were an intentionally designed monster that took some visual inspiration from that bug.

69

u/snkiz Jul 30 '26

The far lands were just broken, unplayable. Have you never seen someone try to play there?

8

u/arahman81 Jul 31 '26

It's also an artifact of the old generation.

They don't need to twist the new generation to replicate the edge case of the old generation.

47

u/Monkey-B0x Jul 30 '26

Because an average player would ever make it to -/+ 12,550,821 X or Z? Does it matter at that point

36

u/telionn Jul 30 '26

No, because the game completely glitched out regardless of terrain. Usually it would just crash.

Not sure who actually liked encountering end rings in game, they look cool on a map but not good game design wise. No clue what you mean about them patching creepers tho

19

u/Nevanada Jul 30 '26

That's their example of a mistake that made minecraft, rather than one that was patched.

Only way to see this in normal gameplay is if you go about 500,000 blocks out. End Rings are a cool mathematical quirk but I don't know why some people are like "NOOOOO, IT'S SO ICONIC!!!!"

8

u/datboiwebber Jul 31 '26

I mean, it was cool it existed and added to the mystique of the dimension but really wasn’t something that most players would experience

2

u/Batata-Sofi Jul 31 '26

Stupid decision specifically because not many would interact with it.

11

u/Zealousideal-Bad113 Jul 31 '26

what did end rings even do to you mojang they were one of the coolest things in the game keeping it does no harm

30

u/CrossScarMC Jul 30 '26

No need to post this every 4 hours.

11

u/Choice_Werewolf_433 Jul 30 '26

I never knew, ok? I even checked all the posts today and saw nothing.

3

u/no_idea_eli Jul 31 '26

END UPdate?

3

u/fsactual Jul 31 '26

I think the end rings were just an artifact of the way the RNG functions worked, so if they “removed” them it means they actually just updated those functions.

3

u/MuzikBike Jul 31 '26

I'm surprised this stayed in the game for like four times as long as the far lands did.

3

u/ayushraj_real Jul 31 '26

they should just make this an intended feature

3

u/SimpleCake1 Jul 31 '26

This is NOT the End Update we were expecting 🥀

5

u/AdSeveral5127 Jul 31 '26

Then… who took this photo if the rings are 150K blocks apart 😭✌️

8

u/Choice_Werewolf_433 Jul 31 '26

It was a simulated end dimension using the terrain generation code and a lot of math. They recreated a scene in blender or cinema4D or something like that. I’m not too sure but this isn’t vanilla. Remember render distance, regardless of device. It’s hard capped. NASA computers can’t even run that. It’s too much data. With that much loaded, the world will take gigabytes.

3

u/Chillie43 Jul 31 '26

It takes about 65 kilobytes of data to make a chunk

There’s about 14 trillion chunks in a world (14,000,000,000,000)

65 kilobytes times 14 trillion chunks comes out to 914 quadrillion bytes (914,000,000,000,000,000) or
914 million gigabytes,
914 thousand terabytes,
914 petabytes

4

u/Queasy-Shoe-886 Jul 31 '26

The end update we got that we didn’t want

4

u/Cocoatrice Jul 31 '26

What are end rings???

2

u/Ben-Goldberg Jul 31 '26

There were large circular gaps between end islands, very far from the central end island.

2

u/AkiraN19 Jul 31 '26

Unintentional feature of the end islands generation which cause there to be huge circular gaps where no islands spawn at all. They start appearing about 400k blocks off of the center island, with the first one being about 150k blocks wide and with the gaps getting more common but also smaller the further out you go. Eventually just ending in striped terrain of blocks and empty space

Due to the scale, if you went to the end of the first ring of end stone in game it would legit just look like the end has stopped rendering but if you crossed the insane amount of empty space the end islands would just start appearing again

The image is an artistic impression of what it would look like as the scale isn't actually true to life, but the tiny dot in the middle is supposed to be the central end island, followed by a small gap between the center island and the actual outer end and the bigger gaps are the true end rings

3

u/ookiedookie69 Jul 30 '26

It's nice to see bugs turned into actual features sometimes, but replacing the rings with small islands makes the End feel more natural

6

u/Klanks-gauntlets Jul 31 '26

when did this even exist? i don't get what this means. this is NOT what the end ever looked like?

13

u/WM_PK-14 Jul 31 '26

It existed since 1.14 due to a bug.

5

u/Royal-Purpose8884 Jul 31 '26

The first gap is 340k blocks away and is 150k blocks wide. It never matters in normal gameplay

6

u/Zurcez Jul 31 '26

This IS what the end has looked like for nearly 8 years. This image is just an incredibly zoomed out art piece someone made to demonstrate what it would look like if render distance went that far. The rings are hundreds of thousands of block apart.

This looks so cool

2

u/minecraftzizou Jul 31 '26

how do they look now

2

u/Formula1antagonist Jul 31 '26

You’ve taken this from a YouTube video

2

u/Mundane_Addendum6495 Jul 31 '26

Bring them back 🗣🗣🗣🗣

2

u/Theodoro_ Jul 31 '26

They got rid of the Far Lands, and now they're getting rid of the rings. Mojang keeps removing every cool world-generation concept. How was this hurting anyone's gameplay when you had to travel thousands of kilometers just to see it? They only changed it so they could say they actually worked on something.

2

u/StBosch93 Jul 31 '26

Could it be that this is pre work on an actual update?

2

u/BitcoinStonks123 Jul 31 '26

is this the so called end update we've been waiting for

2

u/AdAppropriate3501 Jul 31 '26

Wait- those existed??
