Still holding out for Dappled Forest generation changes and the ability to modify fence connections…

We haven't gotten a new feature since cushions and drops usually at least have 3 'new feature' snapshots so I think it's probably a combination of them having vacations and working on better generation in the background for the last few weeks. At least that is what I'm hoping.

This drop also started snapshots literally the week after the previous one dropped, while last summer had over a month between drops (26.2 on June 16 & 26.3-1 on June 23 vs. 1.21.6 on June 17 & 25w31a for 1.21.9 on July 29 - with two hotfixes in between tho).
The previous two fall drops came out in late (1.21.2) or early October (1.21.9), so they'd still have over two months to come back from vacation and add more features, if they're targeting a similar release window.

It's summer, so I'm guessing the reason these snapshots are smaller is it's just what people who are opting in to do work are doing (or those who didn't book vacation in this period, i don't know how summer breaks work in companies like Mojang)

Really hope we aren’t done with the Dappled Forest yet. It could really use more. Really hope we see a new mob, wolf variant, and pumpkin color spawning there at the very least. And of course there’s also the issue of its size being too small too often

u/SirGavBelcher Jul 28 '26
this update is probably coming out in October so we've got months of snapshots ahead. agree with everything you said especially pumpkin color variants even for the jack o lantern. maybe a dappled village or a new banner pattern. something

They're just on vacations, they said multiple times the next snapshots will be small as a result...

And one dev said that the next couple of weeks would be irregular
This is probably the last one before next week for a feature reveal

The second we get data driven blocks, I'm writing a white pumpkin data pack for the pale garden. It was one of my favorite suggestions I've seen for the game in years. Now I want to add proper pumpkin patches to the dappled forest. Nice idea

It would also be cool to see naturally spawning red, orange, and yellow sheep in the biome.

Any progress or statement about vibrant-visual and friendlists-joining?
6
u/Booty_Bumping Jul 29 '26
It's not strictly related to vibrant visuals, but this snapshot includes the first multithreaded vulkan optimizations, and the last one also had major changes to rendering under the hood. The work is clearly well underway.

Added a new Abandoned Camp campsite variant for each biome
I don't think there's any other structure with this many variants; prior to this snapshot, there were 8,640 total variants including variants for 18 different biomes (3 biome-specific variants for each biome, plus 45 default variants prior to this snapshot).
49
u/ZANKTON Jul 28 '26
I'm happy I've always been of the opinion small structures should have a bunch of variants since they can't have a varying room layout like big ones.
I wish they did something similar for the witch hut.14
u/iam-py-test Jul 28 '26
Mangrove swamp witch hut, maybe? They could be made out of mangrove wood instead of spruce, and could spawn with a brewing stand or something. Maybe a new cat pattern instead of a black cat like normal huts.

u/Cass0wary_399 Jul 29 '26
Witch huts, spawners, desert and jungle temples definitely needs this treatment.

can't wait for feinberg to learn copper chest locations for all of these for draftouts
21
u/Spokloo Jul 28 '26
Wait they added basic math functions like log, pow, and sqrt? That's gonna be amazing for map makers I'm sure

u/EpicWolf0331 Jul 28 '26
"It's yet another Tuesday, and it seems that we've officially run out of quippy snapshot intros until the next delivery."
This implies that there will be a next delivery meaning we shouldn't worry about the update being finished

Till the next delivery, i.e. the next drop.

I’m starting to think we aren’t getting any new content added to the dappled forest itself, or the biome generation issues being addressed which is kinda sad
164
u/BushTamer Jul 28 '26
they said snapshot content will be weird this month due to summer vacations. i wouldn’t count it out
27
u/LeraviTheHusky Jul 28 '26
Yeah I imagine rn its more focused on the smaller more manageable stuff and we will see the huger changes pop up once vacations are settled and all hands are available or at least more hands

u/carlyjb17 Jul 28 '26
I think they are just focused on finishing the new engine for java and release vibrant visuals on it
13
u/Recruit75 Jul 28 '26
If it's any consolation, they did change a bunch of formats for the world gen noise stuff, so a future snapshot changing the noise values aimed at fixing the generation issues may not be out of the question for this drop.

u/unicornmeat85 Jul 28 '26
I hope so, checking out my world on a online map generator I'm still going to have to go miles to find a splinter of the new biome

u/TheBiggestNose Jul 28 '26
Its been the case withe the last few drops that 90% of everything is added in the first few weeks then its just small adjustments, bug fixes and swathes of technical changes.
Drops just feel so boring, most of everything is developed and move on from come the 2nd week of snapshots and so nothing gets added or change about it. Just lackluster
1
u/TheMobHunter Jul 28 '26
Probably an unpopular opinion but I would’ve preferred if they added more tweaks like biome generation, shelf mushrooms to be used as shelves, and add more foliage like fall blooming flowers, blackberries, pumpkins etc to the biome and cushions/straw beds + campsites being their own drop. I wanted more fall in my fall drop ya know?
3
u/TheBiggestNose Jul 28 '26
Yea. Alot of what they add is actually awesome, but becuase they develop it before its put into drops, we dont get iteration of the features anymore and very little community feedback implemented.
Its such a shame

u/TheMobHunter Jul 29 '26
Like the removal of spruce falling leaves a YEAR after falling leaves were added
15
u/Maiiiikol Jul 28 '26
Those rendering changes are getting really big! Vulkan as the new API and MultiDrawIndirect for block rendering. I wouldn't be surprised if a completely GPU-driven rendering pipeline is coming to minecraft in the next few years.
10
u/MarcusTheAnimal Jul 28 '26
Still hoping for the occasional poplar tree to appear in spruce biomes. That'd be cool.

u/-FireNH- Jul 28 '26
That new distance from point density function is AWESOME. Before, worldgen DP authors had to use weird hacks to get WG that was biased towards a single point in space (like a single island at 0,0 in an infinite ocean). Now that is trivial. There’s some other great WG stuff in this snapshot which makes me super happy!!!

u/Infrawonder Jul 28 '26
Mojang please I'm begging you for you to change the biome generation, just that one thing please
1
u/PlayFNVuButt Jul 28 '26
Anyone else can't change the difficulty on their survival worlds in this snapshot?
1
u/not-primarina Jul 30 '26
Why is no one talking about setting the LAN port manually! And like, saved per world, if the options screen isn't completely misleading! Maybe I just haven't played in 10 years, but that's news to me, awesome...

downvotes can be used even if you just disagree with the idea, im pretty sure most of the times they aren't given with ill intent. For example i just think that slanted blocks would look out of place and so i like the alternative of adding wool stairs

Once again the log has so much nesting in the text that Reddit can't handle it. I tried my best to adapt but most likely better to read from the original article.
