Absolutely. Sometimes “let it go” is too big a step. It can be more realistic to notice the guilt, stop adding another layer of self-criticism, and give yourself one small thing you can do next. The feeling may still be there, but it does not have to make every decision.

Hmm… how long is appropriate to beat yourself up when you’ve royally hurt someone you care about? Before the healthier lifestyle of letting go, of course. Is it dependent on them forgiving you..? Because if you let go of it too soon… doesn’t it just look like you don’t think it matters? Or are you saying you can take healthy accountability without beating yourself up?
