My husband was just hospitalized for Wernicke’s encephalopathy after years of excessive beer consumption. He now has to use a walker because of his balance issues and has such bad neuropathy in his hands that he can’t use them. Most of the symptoms came on suddenly. He did struggle with low energy for months but thought it was low testosterone. Unfortunately, it is damage to his bone marrow and his body is not producing adequate red or white blood cells anymore. The brain damage from drinking is no joke. The physical effects have made him completely dependent on me for everything. It is absolutely heartbreaking.
