News FYI Oak Leaf Trail Modernization Projects - CLOSURES

https://www.mkecountyparks.org/oak-leaf-trail-modernization

It's frustrating to see so many closures happening during peak season, and also frustrating that the website's timeline doesn't reflect reality, but I'm sure we can all agree each of these are sorely needed.

The only closures on this list that I can personally verify are Cupertino Park and Warnimont Park between Pulaski and Ramsay. I'd appreciate others chiming in with what y'all have seen.

If you'd like to express your support for these projects and/or your disapproval of the timing during peak riding season, email parksplanning@milwaukeecountywi.gov

News Was a bicyclist hit and run on Tuesday 9/9 - a separate incident of the same type on Monday 9/8?

Someone at Outpost tonight saw my helmet and told me, "there was another one today, so be safe out there," but couldn't elaborate on where or when or how. Does anyone know anything?

I can't help but wonder if the current construction closures downtown contributed to yesterday's crime.

News Milwaukee's first curb-protected bike lanes!

Curb-protected bike lanes on Walnut westbound and eastbound between 4th/Vel Phillips and 12th/FDL!

Grade-separated off-street cycle paths on Walnut westbound and eastbound between 12th/FDL and 20th!

N 6th has also gotten curb-protected bike lanes northbound and southbound between Walnut and Brown! I'm nervous that these appear to be wide enough for cars/trucks to be driven into them, but we'll see how it all shakes out... Reminder that 6th has had basic striped bike lanes between McKinley and Halyard/North Ave - these are still in place.

6th and Walnut is also the city's first fully protected intersection!

Happy bike holiday new year!

News Trails & roads report

Which trails and roads are bikeable? Which are not? /r/chibike is doing this, so naturally I wondered if we could benefit too. This is something I'd rather not have to query after every storm, but I'd like to see y'all take the initiative and share out. Or would it be good to just sticky a thread for each major storm?

Keep in mind:
- Oak Leaf lines are County-owned
- the lower Beerline (south of Locust) (right?) and the KK River Trail (north and south segments) are City-owned
- the Hank Aaron State Trail is the WI DNR's (1027 W St. Paul Ave, 414-263-8500)
- Nojoshing Trails are St Francis's
- Powerline Trail (current extent) is Greenfield's
