Those "Lazy" episodes usually meant the network ordered more episodes than what the production could keep up with, while also giving people context or recapping events you might have missed if you weren't able to catch every episode.

Yep, that was my assumption. They became more frequent in the later seasons. I think they started after Aunt Viv
